    Love these nights, they don’t come often but when they do it’s euphoric 😁. Most I made in a 10 hr shift was 800. Most of that though came from an angel of a man who left a 500 tip on an 80 tab. I just about cried when I saw it. If you see this Austin, you’re a saint. That money got paid forward!

    The organization and the fact that all the other bartenders respect the organization by being organized themselves is very satisfying. A clean environment is a happy and less stressful environment. Very well done on both the people making drinks.

    Percentage- wise, i think my biggest tip was $20 on a $3 Coke. But dollar- wise it was probably $86 on the whole $260 tab

    I work in kitchens but we had a group of business men that sat at our VIP table around 10-12 of them they bought 4 bottles of our most expensive wine ($400/bottle) all had 5-6 course meals. The head of the company paid the entire bill that was around $8,000CAD and the server (who came in just to take care of this group) was left $1000 tip

    Only $1000 tip on an $8000 bill, that's terrible, as that's only what 12%. If a server is giving excellent service, especially to a group of VIPs, they should have paid that server 20% which is $1600. I worked at a high end restaurant in the Napa Valley in California. We added an automatic 18% gratuity to parties of 5 or more, but 9/10 times they would leave additional money for the tip. Maybe Canada does things different but here in the US, I would be LIVID if I only got $1k on $8k tab

    For whoever doesn’t work in this industry, server has to tip out kitchen, food runner, host, etc. usually it’s around 6%-8% of the entire bill which mean $500 out of $1000 didn’t go to the server’s pocket in this case. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a huge amount money but server is not just working for him/herself.

  • @behzadmastoor1382

    @behzadmastoor1382

    It depends how you learn and the type of person you are. I learned my way up through Barbacking which is basically working under a bartender and you get to see, familiarize and understand not only how to make cocktails/Liqours but the problem solving ability as a bartender. It took me less than 6 months to be fully confident running the bar by myself but still made many mistakes which I learned from. I did try learning the recipes by myself prior to landing a job behind the bar but your self confidence has impact on how you'll work as bartender with no experience. There is no specific time for the latter in my opinion :)

    Do you often get paid tips in with credit or debit card? If so what does that process look like for you to receive those tips and are they taxed on your paycheck already?

  • @Shabla7

    @Shabla7

    Жыл бұрын

    Years back you'd claim say a $5 tip via the credit card transaction that you just closed out for a single customer. You'd do that however many times per shift and take the total of those tips out of the cash register. That claimed tip number is tracked easily. The restaurant would ask you to claim your cash tips also. If you made $100 in cash you'd undercut it and say you only made $75 or whatever you wanted to say to save a bit on the tax ahah.

    If you’re doing counts you have to account for air bubbles and inconsistencies in pouring time. Different syrups and citrus and spirits pour differently. Literally everyone has a different mental timer and most people are never going to be able to make 100 drinks the same way if you’re counting in your head especially when you’re having a conversation with someone simultaneously about what they want to order for example. As a server/bartender I prefer to see bartenders use jiggers. You say tacky I say counting looks sloppy and some might say lazy.
