It is painful to watch Monty in this film knowing how tortured he was by Huston. Such a great talent. Sensitive, gifted and at this point in his life, desperately tormented. There will never again be an actor with Montgomery Clift’s talent. So terribly sad.
0:19- Crap, is this a memory game? 0:41- Geez, this is Roger Corman's Freud: A Poe Adaptation. 1:13- (As Freud) Hehehe. You want the prescription filled, don't ya? 1:33- Oh, wait. I know this one. It's when he enters the mind of a serial killer, like in that Jennifer Lopez movie, The Cell. 1:58- I actually had no idea Freud was Jack the Ripper, though I should have known. Freud in Bill & Ted was NEW Jack the Ripper in Jack's Back (1988).

Grand classique supposé être le meilleur film sur la psychanalyse . "Nathalie, you are not in a hospital, where are you?" C'est dans cette scène que Freud fait revivre sous hypnose à Nathalie aveugle le choc qu'elle a subit lorsqu'elle a été amené de force par la police pour reconnaître son père mort dans les bras d'une prostitué dans un bordel et lui faisant revivre ce trauma la faisant recouvrer la vue. C'est au début de ce film que l'on découvre le Professeur CHARCOT ( à rapprocher de Madame CHARLOT, Professeur Sanremy) à Paris soigner des hystériques par l'hypnose... Magnifique film à voir et à revoir Jean Janyn

Susannah York, Monty’s co-star, reported that Huston was intolerant, impatient, hard and cruel, using his power as director to punish Monty. He was revolted by Monty’s homosexuality and the shooting of this picture was a terribly torturous time for Monty. Such a talented and tormented man. He deserved better than such treatment.
