Sometimes studying something wrong can help you come to an appreciation of the great ideas that came as a result. The thoroughly developed ideas of Freud were a starting point for many to disprove his theories and make better ones. It’s hard to study the psyche but Freud was a pioneer.

Thank you! I believe that psychoalysis is only for diagnosis, not for treatment. The problem is who scores first, not the relationship quality. You are forgetting that the time parameter is present in all our life, it's a kind of cultural illness. The overvaluation of time sometimes is that we go crazy. That's because we are involved into a competition dynamic instead cooperation.

I have recently studied this theory in psychology class. I believe its definitely true and the logic very well holds true with respect to the various adult fixations thats so conspicuous to us in our everyday surroundings. Some suggestions- In the oral stage, i believe the parents should never totally stop their child from sucking the thumb as its a really important stage which can affect the future behavioural characteristics of the child. Every parent must be educated on the psycho sexual stages of development so that they are well aware of their child's behaviour and address them well enough. Anal stage must definitely be catered to as it shapes the person's personality in the future. The rest of the stages are very normal and little can be done about them

But it's amazing how Freud remains so influential in psychology. Even today the idea that 'envy' is an evolved function concerned with competition and status is generally rejected, regardless of all the supporting evidence, such as: ‘Envy’ is universal among human societies ‘Envy’ is both excitable and compulsive The focus of ‘envy’ is generally a perceived rival of the same sex We observe other animal species to act in ways which in humans we would regard as ‘envious’ behaviour ‘Envious’ behaviour in humans directly corresponds with ways in which animal systems of competition and hierarchy operate See hagioptasia.wordpress.com/2017/02/24/the-roots-of-narcissism-other-highly-problematic-human-traits/

Cool theory but you lost me at "sexual dysfunction" and "sexually mature and mentally unhealthy" So... To confront the elephant in the room it feels like a shot at the LGBT community. I don't know why people feel the need to walk around topics like this and make a someone else's preference seen inappropriate or unhealthy. I get where the chart is going, makes a lot of sense, it's science but use better words, please. Don't dance around the subject people are different, not because they idolized either their mom or dad based on their gender and they're definitely not in your words "mentally unhealthy" because of it. It's not a big deal its just a little pet peeve of mine. I know it wasn't meant to be disrespectful, I'm just throwing my opinion out there.

The speaker is teaching us a scientific theory. She does not necessarily agree with or believe any of it. She presents the theory as fact because within the context of this unit of study, these are the facts. Sort of like if your English teacher asked you “Where does Boo Radley live?” - you would answer “Next door to Jem and Scout”. Although you know that Boo Radley does not actually exist, you would still present your answer as fact.

If that was really Freud's psychosexual stages theory then I am not a fan of Freud's work. I will stick with Jung for now.

I don't believe it had anything to do with homosexuality, it is base on children pairing off with the same-sex. For instance, girls played with girls and guys played with guys. They're just having the same-sex friendship, see nothing to worry about you are, perfectly straight.

We are animals with animal needs. Sexuality in the early stages of development only serve as the source of motivation and energy to move forward in eventually becoming a full developed adult animal( in our case human).

When they refer to homosexuality; they're not talking about girl wanting to be sexual with other girls or a boy wanting to be sexual with other boys ( though it can happen). Homo=same, the same, equal, like ; sexual=Of or relating to gender. The theory simply states that we are attracted to the same sex because we feel comfortable with what we know and as we develop and mature we become more daring in exploring the opposite sex.

Not intending to be rude or anything, but did anyone notice something's off, like freudian slips from the speaker on @6:09 @7:46 @9:13 . . ?? No? 😅 P.S. Thank you for this. A bit simplified, but due to time constraints, I guess it is already understood. I'll have to read more into it then. Toodles.

Not everyone thinks Freud was incorrect. Some developing countries which have poor people and poor cultures can easily proved Freud's ideas was correct.
