I’ve been trying to Perfect this in my own 225 gal and I believe it’s working great. I just need to get better care free plants like you show here. My water quality is fine I run it all Thru a 36” trigger sump. I’m very happy Also Trigger will sell you extra dividers if you want extra chambers. Thank you for the video I’ve been looking for stuff like this

Trigger sumps look great, but they aren't available here in UK

Great to Learning about sump. Nice to Get a understanding from some one that have a great sump whit out all the gadets so the sump is more inportent then the aquerium.

I really like you showing the details of the sump. I never used one so this is very helpful. Thank you for sharing. 👍✌👋

be interested to know chemistry readings in the top up tank, given it has live stock in it, also does the top up pump keep pumping against a closed flat valve or does it have a pressure transducer fitted?

I normally have pH at about 6.0, 0 ammonia, and about 10-15ppm nitrates. Top up pump is pumping even if the valve closed, but it is a weak 2W pump, I don't think a stronger pump can handle that.

looks great! Just wondering why you have the plants in the ato reservoir? They wont see any tank water so wont be removing any nutrients form the system. Is it just for aesthetics?

Thank :) As said in the video, there is an auto-top up valve that pumps water from top-up reservoir into sump as water evaporates

What brand/ where did you purchase that auto top off valve/auto top off bracket?

Oh, no more new tanks for a while. Its been a lot of work setting up this one:) I will need a quarantine tank if I manage to get more Altums in January, but for now no couriers ship fish before Christmas

Do you find the plants are effective at nutrient removal? I'm planning a cichlid tank and i want to do a large refugium.

They are, although if you expect high levels of nitrates you might need to add some fast growing plants because Anubias are slow growers and slow nitrate removers.

Plants that only have their roots in the water and the leaves out of the water actually do a better job. You can use Pothos for example.

If you re in the UK, I can recommend ND aquatics they sell excellent quality/design sumps very reasonably priced too

Didn’t you suppose to have the exit of the first section at the bottom, not at the top? In your case the first section does nothing (except anaerobic deposit)
