FRESH SQUEEZED OJ (and I don't mean Simpson) | KitchenAid Citrus Juicer Attachment Review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video we unbox, review and compare the KitchenAid JE Citrus Juicer Attachment to my manual citrus juicer. This juicer attaches to the front of my kitchenaid stand mixer and more convenient (and less bulky) than a standalone juicing appliance. We've finally had more citrus than we've been able to eat as fruit, and this juicer helps us to make use of all that extra fruit.

I use mine to juice a lot of lemons, towards the end of summer, then (using a small funnel, pour the juice into ice cube bags and freeze them. Then we always have lemon juice readily available and just take out as many cubes as required for a recipe/hot drink (two cubes is good for a hot drink) - it’s great if you’ve got a sore throat and want a honey and lemon drink without all the hassle of juicing a lemon.

That's a great idea! It's nice to have readily available juice, on demand as opposed to having to go through the whole juicing process.

Beautiful oranges! What state do you live in? Not sure I can grow them here in CT. I think you convinced me to get this attachment for my mixer... did it make much of a mess?

We are in Southern California! You won't be able to grow them in Connecticut, unfortunately 😢. I haven't found this citrus juicer to be especially messy, given the receptacle to catch the juice is tall enough

Which are your favorite? also do you know why the citrus leaves are taco shaped? My mandarin and blood orange tree leaves look the same.

Hi Michaela! Oooh, of the oranges, I love the Cara Cara the best so far (close second is Washington Navel). For Mandarins, it's Gold Nugget hands down. Anyone I've had taste one has their eyes light up and ask for another, lol! I've noticed that when my citrus leaves get taco shaped, it's usually been when they're a little low on water. Give them a watering and see if that alleviates it in the next day or two. Continual over watering fruit trees is always a concern, but the taco shape has (for me) been a sign of under-watering. Let me know how it goes!

@@TheBusyGardener I love Cara Cara too though I haven't tried homegrown ones. I'll have to try the Gold Nugget. I'm going to give my trees a watering and see how they do then. I'm always worried about overwatering because I did that to my Mandarin tree and it got rust spots in it. I reduced the watering but maybe too much.

After transplants...how many years did it take for your fruit trees to bear fruits?

  • @TheBusyGardener

Hi Terrie! The stone fruit and Dorset Golden apple wanted to bear within the first couple years. As they've matured, I'm seeing more regular yields, but the apples are still not as vigorous as the stones. I anticipate a big pomegranate harvest this year too (4 years in the ground)

Would it still work fine with zested lemons?

Julien Gatien I think there IS probably enough of the rind left after zesting for it to work well.

Not really, the zest is what “firms” the fruit up whilst it’s being juiced and the half fruit “wriggles” around whilst the juicer is turned on, unlike an unzested lemon, so you don’t get all the juice out.
