Fresh Roast SR800

The Fresh Roast SR800 roasts up to half a pound of coffee and has easy-to-use controls. The footprint is compact but it's built like a skyscraper so be careful when roasting because the top pieces and roast chamber are not fully secured to the base. The chaff collector works great and the view of your coffee roasting is very entertaining. With fan and heat controls, you can shape your roast as much as you want.

    I got an SR800 from Sweet Maria's a few weeks ago, absolutely loving it. It took a few pounds of coffee to get used to it, but now this is so much better than the popcorn popper. I am really getting into home roasting now, and getting tons of encouraging comments from friends and family who taste the coffee. I do have to say, the 7oz-ish comment is spot on, 180 ~ 200g seems to be the sweet spot for this roaster for me. However, the 10~20 minute roast times don't seem to line up for me, but perhaps I'm doing something weird. Depending on the coffee, I can hit a City roast at around 5:30 ~ 6:30, and usually be in rolling second cracks by 9:30.

    I have this roaster and am very pleased with it. Compared to roasters I've had in the past, it's fast, so I never leave the room while it's on. As the only coffee drinker in my household, I roast about 1/2 cup of beans once a week and that does the trick for me. I let it finish its "first crack" and then I put it on the cooling cycle.

    I just received my SR800 from Sweet Maria’s, and it’s replacing my Fresh Roast 8+ that finally died (fan motor) after 16 years. The SR800 is phenomenal; big batch size and awesome control. I was able to inch right up on my desired roast level and hit it perfectly on the first try. I did have an issue with the unit on the 2nd batch and the manufacturer, Home Roasting Supplies, were incredibly responsive and helpful.

    I tried mine for first time yesterday and idk maybe too much beans? I was on fan 9 amd heat 9. I did move fan down to 7 when they started moving more but i had to be roasting for 30 min amd still never hit first crack. Busted out my popcorn popper and hit first crack in like 4 min. Idk if i am doing something wrong but was dissapointed in the sr800

    @@timothyberlinski2299 for anyone who is reading this, this was either operator error or a mafunctioning machine. Nothing I have watched suggests 9/9 to start. I have an extension tube and started at 6/2. Because I had more like 3/4 lb I had to turn the fan up but not the heat... If you go past 14 minutes you are probably in trouble. It sounds like something wasn't working and never got your temps up. I sure hope you talked to who you bought it from!

    Hi, I noticed that some are roasting for 5 minutes and some are as long as up to 10 minutes for a medium roast beans. What is the most recommended roasting time? From technical point of view, shorter roasting will prolong the life span of the roaster. But what is the disadvantages?

  • @SweetMariasCoffee

    @SweetMariasCoffee

    In the end, it's all about how your coffee tastes but a roast that's too short can lead to grassy or sour tasting coffee due to the coffee beans not being roasted all the way through. We found that SR800 roasts are complete between 8-13 minutes but time is always less important that roast levels and listening for cracks.

    8oz of green beans? or 8oz of roasted coffee? When I start with 10oz of raw coffee on one of my other roasters, I end with a little more than 8oz of roasted

    8oz of green coffee is the batch size for this roaster, so yes, you will end up with a roasted batch that weighs less.
