Just wanted to note that I love the speed at which this video flowed. It was quite fast, and there were a couple moments (one I can think of is when you were explaining the 2 second universal leader) where I paused and went back to listen again, but I actually prefer that to a slow video that drags as it explains information. Fast is good! Forces you to pay attention, and when all else fails you can watch it again. Thanks Ryan.

The attention to detail in his grading is insane! Bringing down the reds so subtly in the background is something I would have never even thought of. Kudos to him!
Awesome Ryan for the first month of the Epic Summer Series! Can't wait until the next one comes and starts next week - enjoy the weekend! Happy pictures and moviemaking!

Thanks, great tutorial on color. More and more I'm learning that the secret sauce is just effort. There's no magic bullet for looks (pardon the pun).
4:00 I'm so happy we are using Resolve for our project. We just have two people working on the same timeline at the same time via a project server.
This film Sounds incredible, looks incredible, and tells a full engaging funny story. I loved it!! Josh does a fantabulous job as well--he's becoming Ryan's De Niro!

Thank you for explaining the process for deliverables from video to the sound editors. So many times I tell new film makers what I need to start cutting the Dx and they give the me the deer in the headlights look.
seriously. this whole coverage is so amazing to watch. thanks film riot!

I love these epic summer BTS!! Keep them coming :)
Great video on post sound workflow. I believe many film makers will benefit on understanding sound. That's why I'm a sound guru.
color grading makes such a big difference!! Definitely something we need to focus on improving
Thanks for acknowledging going in depth in the sound should be a part of the BTS, it just confirms in our minds your thinking of what we're thinking i.e directing with intent!
More BTS from Ryan Schroeder. Great grade breakdown
Would really like to see a detailed video about color and scopes! I'm always trying to get a better understanding, and this was great about the basics!
Hi Ry! I love your show and I really aspire to be a filmmaker. Your shows inspire me and my friends here in Ecuador!
You guys are really great! Keep up the good work. Your BTS is fantastic and inspiring for filmmakers and VFX artists! It would be great to see you do another FCPX review!
Oh I'm quite early :) I've been loving Epic Summer so far and U.F.Oh yeah was really good!

Cool Tutorials as always Ryan.

This episode was very informative! More so to me than usual. Thanks! :D
This is so great, thanks alot guys!
To the Film Rioter's, I was having a chat with ***** as he was interested in grading some ProRes files. If anyone would like, I will provide the rushes from my last Monday Challenge entry for free to use as practice. They're currently in Red's .R3D format, and are quite large, but I can either provide those, or transcode them to DNxHD (Windows equivalent to ProRes) to be a bit easier to download. If anyone would be interested, reply with which format you would prefer (.R3D or DNxHD) and I'll shoot you the links once they're uploaded.
Thanks for the post, the sound before and after really shows the post production sound work doing its stuff. Any idea how many added sounds he put into that shot, I'm guessing a fair few.
Amazing! Thanks! Could you guys show something like this for speed grade?
Film Riot I have a question about FRES! Do you stand behind a green screen when you do these tutorial for your short film or do you go to that same location every time you are going to do a tutorial about U.F.Oh Yeah?

So many Ryans, ahhhh! Hahaha
Hey Ry Guy! I was just wondering what the budget for UFO yeah was and how you sourced the funds. Thanks
Good stuff, would have liked one more scene example with something more dynamically lit. Maybe an example of color matching scenes too, as I would imagine you don't just drop the same nodes and call it good.
Hey Ryan, the new Mortal Kombat came out a few weeks ago. Do you think you can show us how to make effects like that?
Hi Ryan, Do you ever have problems exporting the OMF from Premiere? I have a 16 track project and it never exports correctly. The audio has transitions and effects on them and I wonder if it's over complicated Thanks, Owain
Great Video Guys, but what is the background music you are using? sounds great and can't find it anywhere
Brilliant tutorial...
Do you think you guys can do a video on a beginner studio, like where to put the lights, the camera, all that stuff? It will really help because me and my friends want to make a film and we know to know how to make a set. Thanks.

Hi Ryan. Great episode! Would you prefer grading your shots in Davinci Resolve or Filmconvert?
Ryan, whats the song called you play in the background of the video? its really nice. from 2:16 to 5:26
So, who does the color grading for the major VFX shots? Not the VFX artists, right? I assume that also goes through color grading with everything else? How different is it grading VFX shots to these kinds of shots that we were shown?
@pekkoeskola5813
9 жыл бұрын
For what I have understood as a beginning vfx artist, is that the compositor does the color grading necessary to match everything together (for example a CG element into live footage), and after that it is usually sent to the colorist for the final grade.
@beethockmtee8565
9 жыл бұрын
The VFX artist would color CORRECT the VFX heavy shots to blend the FX. Then it would be handed off with everything else to be GRADED.

Good Morrooooowww FR team, Even though i did a film production degree years ago, you guys have taught me so much more. Also, got a question. When you're filming the talking to camera parts. Do you do two takes for wide shots and close ups, or just zoom in the footage. Thhhhhaaaannnnkkkkssss Luke
@CineBaker

Sweet!! Thank you!
What did you use to simulate the smoke in the wide shot where the UFO suddenly crashes?

Alexander Osborne I have tried this before and I've always ran into problems. I would also like to know! :)
@DannyField
9 жыл бұрын
Alexander Osborne Usually the grading is done last, once the film is complete. There is a bit of a process [mainly setting up drives and files that will be used, then importing the footage]; which kinda goes in steps - Importing footage [either as clips, or whole film], then editing on timeline [if you do decide to use DaVinci as a clip editing program], then color grading the timeline / footage, then rendering out. There is a bit of a steep learning curve but there are tutorials out there, as once you've played with it enough, the colour grading section is really powerful [as a side note, it handles most formats really well, I import my RAW Blackmagic 4K footage straight in and has no issues with playback]
Nice Video! Where would I be able to contact you for questions?
YOU GOT STAFF PICK ON VIMEO!
I cant get davinci to work on my pc.. is it becayuse its a pc?? i uninstalled it already and instaled it again and it doesnt work... it doesnt find my stuff my videos in the libraries. thats so sad
Is that Vancouver BC, at 6.30 or is it just me?
Fcp x or premier witch one is the best for short film editing
You know a lot of Ryans
All the kids who have been using Magic Bullet looks for years just had their mind blown by Resolve lol
When I finish to use audition, in what way I can put the audio again in premiere?
so so good
How do i get rid of the director's voice while still using the on set audio?
THANKS!!!
I am sorry, but how do you import and export on Reslove.....
i really prefer adobe speedgrade. it just seems like it has much less unnecessary complicated controls
why didnt you buy the hpz840 instead you bought the hpz820 , was it the budget ? :S
I need some feedback, I've been using a GoPro as my primary camera, but I recently acquired a Canon Rebel T3I. Should I stick to the Gopro, or start using the Canon?
@RedCircuitPictures

City on a Hill Canon
@DowntimeMedia
9 жыл бұрын
City on a Hill That all depends what you are using it for and how. The GoPro's lens has a permanent fisheye effect on the lens that is a hassle to remove in post. Also, the GoPro has no adjustable zoom, focus, aperture, etc. Plus the sound quality isn't great. If you are going for a POV style movie or using it for action scenes that could damage the camera, go with the GoPro. But in just about every other case, you are for sure going to want to use the T3i.
@KyleCulver

City on a Hill In my humble opinion a GoPro should never be considered for a primary camera unless the primary camera is going to be destroyed in order to capture a certain shot. But hey, that's why they call filmmaking an 'art' ;)

i just hate davinci resolve... its counter intuitive and coming from adobe its just sad looking program. Its kind like fruity loops of graphics program. Interface design is just awful, and whats up with all multiple screens...gosh... it does give a lot of control over a picture but trough something that is not good UI UX combo.
