I've had recurrent pilonidal cyst for many years and I truly suffered due to fear and lack of true guidance and understanding.. I would argue that hygiene can be a factor once inflammation begins because of the open tract but it's not what causes it or what causes it to flare.. I finally understood it and understood that simply draining it wasn't doing anything but delaying the inevitable,so I had surgery, mainly because one simply can't function with that excruciating level of pain and the recurrence always made me scared of sepsis.. Surgery was outpatient and healing was alot less painful than the continued flares,that always happened at the wrong time or the leakage and smell..😖

Million dollar 💰 question is what can be done to prevent it? Maybe working standing up all the time?

Doctors like this bother me. Ive had a re occuring pilonidal cyst for a few year but i shower daiy and spent 10-15 hours on mt feet daily because of my job and my child but they always make me feel like im lazy or gross and thats the reason why i have it. Main reason i dont go to doctors

I don’t have an active cyst, but I do have a tiny tiny pilonidal “hole” or “sinus”….will that EVER go away or close ?

I had a pilonidal cyst at age 18 in 1977. I got a Saddle Block anesthesia then which caused a debilitating headache and needed a spinal patch to relieve. It was an inpatient surgery then. It didn't heal well and needed to be re-done the next year by a different surgeon (the original surgeon had gone to jail for income tax evasion, no kidding!). The second time took another year to heal. Both times the resulting cavity was left to heal from the "bottom-up". I'm guessing procedures have progressed beyond what I've described above.

I've had a pilonidal cyst come and go over a period of years, about once a year for about a five year period. I found I could sense when it was developing and I would imeadiatly treat the area with tea tree oil wich would stop it in its tracks. I have also treated it with tea tree oil when it was full blown cyst.

@JediM_i I'm doing really well. Having it packed for the first 4 days is really painful so make sure you take painkillers before you go. After that it's just uncomfortable. It's worth it because the pain is unbelievable before the op. I hope you get on ok and please let me know how it goes x

@deepanshu1456 I had an operation to remove the sinus on the 5th Dec and I'm absolutely fine. It didn't feel like I'd had any surgery and I've headed very well

Can you please share what is the next step to get it fully cured after puss is drained. My husband suffered from it last week, he sits in the hot tub for 1 hour for 2 days and puss came out with pressing the area. He was also on antibiotics.

After surgery its been 4 months now. When i drive more than 1 hr . It starts hurting there like crazy. But no recurrence. Is rhere any kind of seat cusion or anything i can use not to have that pain ?
