I heard a Dutch journalist on the radio one hour ago. She said about this song: "my children are singing this all day, it makes me crazy!!" (then she laughed).

The song is typical of the Netherlands. It is in Dutch, a music genre, the music video features mills and stunning Dutch landscapes. Eurovision is an emotional affair for Joost. As a child, he watched it together with his parents. "Parents, one day I'm going to be on Eurovision stage" and he did. Unfortunately, his parents died when he was a child. This song is dedicated to his late father. That's why it's called EUROPAPA. The part in the song “I'm in Germany, but I'm so alone. I'm in Italy, but I still feel the pain, etc.", I feel it's directed at his parents... Joost loved his parents and still does. His lyrics are mostly very deep, but the melody is happy, danceable and the clips of his song are presented in a fun way. I'm so proud of him.

Basically, he is telling the story how he traveled around but could never escape the pain of losing his parents so early. Now he is expressing how he wants to burn his grief and choose life. I love how it's such an upbeat fun song, because that is exactly what he wants to tell.

Joost is a genius...collaberating with DJ Paul...it is a very nice gesture towards his parents of honoring them,and everytime I listen to the song,that last sentence everytime gets me (My father passed away due a medical fuckup by hospital when he was 57...I was 30)

It’s fun and up beat, but in it’s core it’s a sad song about him missing his parents. Who died when he was very young. His dad thought him there are no borders. And while watching eurosong with them he told them he would preform there one time. They died when he was 12 and that’s why he dedicated this song to them.

In its core it's a sad song, but this is also a happy song at the same time. It's not just about hearing the message from him to his parents, but also about feeling the message from his parents to him. They always supported him in his dreams and gave him the courage and energy to go on. They sort of said: "Dear son, you're gonna make it, because we will always be there with you to give you everything you need to become everything you want." If I was standing in his shoes, this music would feel like partying and celebrating the success of achieving his ultimate dream. This music is like the emotion is bursting out, and that is exactly what it is meant for, what he wanted and what his parents wanted for him. At least that's what I think. It is a message to his parents, but also a present from his parents, so it fits perfectly with his story.

I am definitely a proud Dutch woman! 🇱🇺❤️ Lets give the Netherlands 12 points!❤ And spread all this joy and love throughout all of Europe, we all know...everyone needs a little love and a little joy 🙏❤️🇱🇺

This is a masterpiece!!! This is the winner of Eurovision Songcontest 2024. No doubt. Europapa = Eurodad. 12 points for The Netherlands. An ode to his father who passed away when he was 12 years and his mother who passed away when he was 13 years. He promised his father that one day he will be singing at the Eurovision. They used to watch it together when he was a child. Now he made it, because he will be on stage this year. The fire simbolise letting go of the pain no having his parents and the start of a new chapter in his life.

Ladies and gentleman as a Dutch person there is obviously a lot of nostalgia and lovely references, and when you first watch it you are like.... what the... then you laugh after some time and enjoy, and then the emotional puch at the end with the reference to his dad...
