French prison officers killed in armed ambush as inmate escapes
Two prison officers have been killed and three others injured by pump-action rifle fire after an attack on their van carrying an inmate who is now on the run.
The van was transporting the prisoner between Rouen and Evreux when it was attacked at the Incarville toll plaza, say French reports citing police sources.
Police have launched a manhunt after the attack at the toll on the A154 motorway in Val-de-Reuil in the Eure department, Normandy, shortly after 11am, say reports.
Eric Dupond-Moretti, French justice minister, posted on X, formerly Twitter: “A prison convoy was attacked in Eure. Two of our prison officers have died, three are seriously injured.
“All my thoughts are with the victims, their families and their colleagues.”

Yes all police in France carry hand guns but they most probably being transported in a regular police van they weren't expecting to be ambushed by organised crime who happened to have more powerful weapons with them to attack the convoy.

@@charliezz6746 Yes, but I have seen the uncensored footage on X. The Police clearly open all their doors almost immediately during the attack. Also, I don't understand why the police car behind them helped to box in the van. Surely they should have allowed them room to reverse out of the situation? Was there police collusion? It just all seems a bit strangely handled - all respect given to the dead. Trying to understand how this unfolded.

Before, the transport of detainees was done by officers of the "gendarmerie", they were specially formed for this and equipped (at least an assault rifle in one car) But as usual, there is a lack of resources, not enough money and formed personnel for the growing number of prisoners and convoy, so now a convoy can be done by non trained, simple prison officers, with hand guns and non-armored vans... That's why it was a mess
