French model of M1874 Epee (Gras) bayonet
Today we are taking a look at the French Epee (French for sword) bayonet for the Gras rifle.
Below is a list of all manufacturers of the Gras bayonet.
M1874 bayonets were produced at the French state arms plants:
-Chatellerault
-St. Etienne
-Tulle
Also by French government contractors:
-L. Deny, Paris
-Oudry, Paris
-Oesterreichsche Waffenfabrik Gesellschaft, Steyr
Government bayonets are marked on the blade spine with the factory, month, and year of production.
Commercial producers include:
-Alexander Coppel & Cie., Solingen
-Francois Louis Henry, Chatellerault
-Oesterreichsche Waffenfabrik Gesellschaft, Steyr
-S.L., Saint Étienne (Sutterlin Lippmann & Cie.)

The blades of these were never intended to be sharpened, except for the last few inches.keeping it purely as a thrusting weapon,and not for splitting firewood and opening tins,all frowned upon by the authorities.
Just picked up a Gras bayonet yesterday. Thanks for all the info.
its blade type is similar to Afghan Khyber sword just much narrower

Very informative thank you. Just bought one of the RTI gras rifles and im looking at getting a bayonet for it. thankfully for some reason there is a lot of them in the US. if anyone know y there are so many here plz lmk. as far as ik there isnt a lot of gra rifles. just bayonets. kinda weird.
