This reminded me of the French Pork pies that a local church makes as a fundraiser. Great use of Spices too!
An entire month of pies! It doesn't get any better than this.
This looks terrific and hearty for a colder March night!
It's always fun to hear some of your family history and stories. That always makes a recipe better, I think. You're pretty calming too, Renee. 🙂

I married into a french canadian family and I make these meat pies now too! Every family seems to have their own recipe; fun to see the variations. It a Christmas Eve tradition, but I typically make a couple and freeze to enjoy when the kids come up to visit.

We're also French Canadian . My great grandpa came down to Michigan. We love pasties, I've never thought of doing this but it seems very similar. Looks great

My family is also from Canada (Ontario and Montreal). I’m first generation American. I have to admit, I never did like tourtiere, but your video made me think about all the holidays that my mom made it. I will have to try yours to see if I like it better. Thanks for bringing me “back home”😊
Meat pies are the best.. This looks absolutely delicious! 😋
This looks amazing. I'm going to print this recipe out for future reference. I like to make meat pies & freeze the leftovers for a quick lunch.❤️

That looks great. My father was from Quebec, and this was our holiday dinner every year. I remember my mother making 14 pies and freezing them after Thanksgiving for relatives. Try using bells brand poultry seasoning, it has the perfect amount of each spice...yum. Thank you and Bonnie for this recipe, I can't wait to try it.

Me too! I'm a first gen American, my family is from Quebec & Nova Scotia! My Grandma use to make this all the time for us! For anyone that has never had this meat pie, I highly suggest it! Use the pork though unless you need to replace it with turkey for a lower fat meal. Enjoy!!

I really like a savory meat pie! This one looks wonderful can’t wait to try it! Great job!
I'm also a Michigander and meat pie is part of my heritage as my parents were from Upper Michigan and also French Canadian. When my grandmother was 15 she would bake pies and bring them to the lumberjacks in the area and sell them. This is how she met my grandfather. They were 15 years different in age. Her meat pie was also beef and pork but she only added cinnamon as a flavoring. It was always served with sweet Gerkin baby pickles. My sister still makes it to this day. It is part of our Christmas morning tradition. I think I like your version better.
