The Lebel was a true revolution but the rifle design was dated from adoption. The changes in the Lebel 1886M93 WERE attempts to improve it. The Berthiers were not equal to any of the other service rifles of WW1 but were better than the Lebel M93. Less said about the M1892 revolvers or the Ruby, the better. Very interesting.

Great video and lots of great information. Given the materiel with which the French began the struggle in the Great War, they did amazingly well.

Could not find one. This was a quick presentation at a meeting when the scheduled speaker on French arms could not make it. So I took my collection for display and made it the presentation.

I once met a guy from Poland that spent 5 years in a gulag for possession of a pistol. It was right after WW2 and he said guns were everywhere

Be sure to check out the ASP video on Polish Small Arms 1919-1939. Once Poland made collecting legal all sorts of goodies appeared. When I visited the country in 1973 I was told that possession of a firearm was considered proof you were a enemy of the state.
