I prefer it over ice - lately I’ve been drinking them from a wine glass 😆

Garlic Girl thought you might be interested in some extra reading GG... Originally it didn’t even include the Champagne - it was a gin, apple brandy and grenadine cocktail... then in 1927 the version we know today was created (served long in a high ball). It was the champagne cocktail trend of the 80s that started the trend of serving it in a flute.. www.diffordsguide.com/en-au/encyclopedia/1267/cocktails/french-75-cocktail-recipes-and-history

Typically a dry champagne or sparkling but it will work with any.... if you do use something that is quite sweet then you can always hold back on the simple syrup :)

May I ask, I see some recipes 30 ml gin, but 15 ml syrup, 15 ml lemon? Does it really matter?

Naaa, i think it depends how citrusy or sweet you want it, I recommend not too much citrus since you would kill the taste , less is better here, just to get the punch
