Freire's Banking Concept of Education
Paulo Freire presents a thought-provoking look at the problem with education. He describes what he calls the "banking" concept of education in which teachers simply make deposits of knowledge into students and later withdraw that knowledge. As a solution, he offers the notion of a problem-posing concept of education in which teachers and students share the roles of teacher and learner.

Powerful! Freire's philosophy reminds me of our personal call. It demands attitudes of detachment, becoming poor, placing our self at the side of the excluded, and participating in liberating processes. Processes that will lead to an interior freedom, personal growth and happiness. Processes that will promote justice, peace and social change.

@phoenix The book also states that a student must have some information before Problem-posing education can be introduced. It is merely a introduction, not the Banking concept of education, in my opinion
Excellent! Every instructor should be familiar with Paulo Freire's work on education, and every student planning a career in education should study him before teaching a single class. This video is a fabulous summary.

"every student planning a career in education should study him before teaching a single class. This" Precisely what Freire opposes, placing educational demands on others with out their participative voice, sorry.
When people are set free and are no longer being oppressed they have the choice not to watch videos like this.
This issue, pedagogy, or teaching, is posed as polar opposites. Easy to follow, for ideologues. No need to ask questions, just accept what you are told here, on this youtube site. Easy! . It is a corruption of Freire’s philosophy. But one can feel so virtuous when dismissing the possible role of a teacher, examples of what good teaching might look like. No need to explore the idea of a teacher, or role, further. This was not PF’s intent. Lev Vygotsky is suspiciously absent. Classic Marxist interpretation here, which brooks no discussion.
