I really like this - especially the addition of new trucks and Hydra’s melody is so catchy. Can’t wait to see it in a week!

@@EHH246 yeah until u realize, that, in a show about trains, people that actually enjoy some of hobby or captivation by them, will be the incredibly aggravated that they were possibly expecting a character named Porter (the British term for Brakeman ,which is the crew member in charge of the caboose) to be a caboose! And yet another brilliant kick in the balls to your veteran fans by cancelling their favorite characters to install the latest cheapo option. 🤷🤦

Yet another example of the highly probable duds when trying to "rebuild the wheel!" The original version of the song was a poppy piece of perfection that even people that don't normally like pop heavy things could get caught humming the melody of! I kinda understand why it then was rebooted back to more of its proto STEx form in the representation of the piece as "engine of love" (as that was the demo piece that kinda acted as a catalyst or spark that would eventually start/ignite the firebox that would become StEx). But it absolutely perplexes me that those two different iterations were never actually merged together, to actually act as a non sappy, but rather upbeat duet between Rusty & Pearl and backed by the other coaches! Instead it was retooled to be another additional slow paced, wishy-washy display of her conflict between her desire for someone that can offer substance vs the desire of the vanity associated with being or partner with 'said' someone... 🙄🤢 LAME! But then again I'm the schmuck that would prolly be chasing around Joule or Volta! (I'm sorry miss, did you say Animal car?... Does that mean animal like the kind where Purring, Scratching, Biting &/or Hissing are typical??? Dunno that sounds kinda scary! 😬😲 -> 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤫) 😉😆 Digressing... It really boggles my mind that the thought of combining the three different versions never seemed to cross anyone's minds (of the most likely, incredibly well paid production leaders of all the damn productions over the decades! "Hey we got some new song and character ideas! How can we use them to replace older favorites and alienate the veteran fans for not realizing the magic of combining the highlights of the past with the new ideas for the present/future!

I think the awkward pauses and strange lyrics when they introduce themselves is purposeful to show that the character are a bit dim-witted (freight has always been about muscle and not brains)

It's prolly a bootleg recorded at an early rehearsal with a very small audience (given the fact it sounds like the audience reaction is generated by about a whopping 1O people...

It's also a bootleg and I'm guessing it got sneakily recorded at a rehearsal, opposed to being recorded at an actual performance. I'm not terribly excited about what I've or seen (costumes are extremely disappointing IMHO) from this "revival" so far, but its technically still a work in progress at this point. Pink Floyd began performing DSotM live well over a year before they even began to record what upon release would become one of the best albums of all time! There was some really cool stuff they were doing back in January 1972 when they first started (&it was stuff that didn't make the final cut), but if you listen to the early performances of "Time," they were pretty awful and far from the killer track it would become (it began to find its feet around April 1972, still 11 months prior to the release of finalized version)! Nothing is set in stone and the fact that there is essentially very little publicly released details about the tracklisting, the roster of characters, even PR media, should be a sign that a LOT can change. I mean, who knows? There might even be some giant online petition that would get some nobody person who might have seen the original show as a five year old to get some sort of production consultant gig that could point out all the stuff that disconnected professionals tend to overlook! Just look at the difference between that "star wars" sequel trilogy Lucasfilms put Kathleen Kennedy in charge of, vs what two nobodies of big time/big money movie production (but were admitted nerd like childhood fans) achieved with the Mandalorian! Sometimes going back to.the roots is far more strategic than going to whatever is considered hot, hip, in Vogue, etc.

I think they messed up a great opportunity to do something that would have both provided some long overdue fan service to folks who loved the show since day 1, but also provided a bit of modern contextualization and mixed things up a little BUT staying incredibly faithful to the very original plot synopsis! Quite ironically, my idea was actually entirely based on the character names that were revealed back in March. But essentially my revised prediction was that we would get 5 freight cars in this production that were essentially the same as the original 1984 six (but their plot roles would be slightly juxtaposed which would provide an unexpected surprise for veteran fans during act 2)! Essentially the freight would be Rocky the Boxcar - all 3 consolidated Hydra hydrogen car - hybrid FT/Dustin Slick Oil Tanker - hybrid FT/CB Lumber Log Car - Dustin in Act 1 Porter Caboose - hybrid Rocky/CB Basically there would be one Rocky who would still announce there's a lot like me & Porter would inquire "where's that damn #2 & damn #3?" Hydra would have a new intro completely, but essentially be the new modern "weirdo" car that the others were intimidated by. Slick Oil would be the snotty tank car. Like Flattop. Kinda rude and very pro-diesel Lumber would be the gentle giant with a head full of logs and the unbalanced car that will help Mamma win, but overexert her because of his unbalanced heavy load Porter would be a cranky old Caboose wishing he was still of more use. Porter is actually the British Term for a Brakeman (the crew member assigned to a caboose). *** Also contrary to popular conception, cabooses are still often used in North America on Maintenance Trains & branchline service since a Brakeman is responsible to be the eyes for an engineer when a train is moving in reverse... Veteran fans would expect bitterness will be Porter s motivation to cause a giant wreck and ruin the race for all parties involved. However, the tumultuous tanker turns out to be the foil in this version. Porter then would be the one to lecture Rusty, Rocky, Lumber & Hydra about how everything is just a matter of being in the right place at the right time. He essentially is kind of dick to them, but he's old school and expressing a hard ass tough love approach. Explaining that he was a big deal back in the day. Kids were just as excited about the caboose as the locos. He had one of the most important jobs He supplied all the brakes He had what it takes But then he went from hero to zero Coz now he's not in the right place at the right time He essentially becomes like the old man in Rocky the hard ass trainer and of course we see Rocky the Boxcar very much inspired and assisting in the song. It also brings modern relevance to the show. Tank cars wreak havoc when they derail. Cabooses are used mostly for branchline service. However, we get essentially the same plot delivered from different roles!

I am from Germany, Bochum, and I am shocked. What's that? Starlight Express? No. Definitly not. Andrew L. Webber killed the Starlight Express in a theatre...live and in front of everybody. Shame on you, Mr. Webber! I'm seriously so incredibly sorry that after so many years of waiting for a comeback, you're seeing such an absolutely bad and embarrassing production in London. Hopefully Bochum will start adding some shows in English. I'm actually kinda surprised they didn't add an English show or two to weekly showtimes when the London production closed. It would definitely sell tickets. Not to mention, many who appear in the Bochum production have been in other (English language) productions. I would think it would just increase the marketability of the show

Oh goodness, this is diabolical 😖 Can’t believe they had the nerve to charge such extortionate ticket prices for this! 😮 WTAF?! And why are they suddenly singing in either posh theatre school kid or sarf London accents rather than American accents?! Granted Dustin and Flat Top were always funny Brits, but the rest weren’t! And Control is so flat and too quiet. It’s supposed to be a kid getting excited and enthused about the game they’ve made up, hence why they usually had an adult performer do the voice as they’re more experienced performers. I’m dumbstruck every time I see/hear more from this new production as I can’t believe how bad it is! 😮
