Freezing Temperatures on Alabama's Longest Rail Trail | A Bike Ride On The Chief Ladiga Trail
Hey Guy's, while I was down south I made a visit to Anniston, Alabama. The Western Terminus of The Chief Ladiga Trail. Alabamas Longest Rail Trail, starting in Anniston and ending at The Georgia Border. The Trail is well maintained and 33 miles of smooth black top. At the Georgia border starts Georgias Longest Rail Trail, also paved, The Silver Comet Trail. The Silver Comet trail heads east nearly into downtown, Atlanta. Im going to have to come back for that one.
I had a great time out and back on The Chief Ladiga Trail for a 66 mile day. This trail makes my list and is a must ride. Looking forward to heading back to the south to see what other trails I can find. Catch you on the trail.

Alabama side is asphalt, Georgia side is concrete. Tree roots are bucking up the pavement, be careful and look out for them. Very nice, start early and enjoy the ride!
Love that early morning sunrise in the background
A tip from a cold weather winter cyclist in Iowa, buy a pair of cycling sandals. With them you can layer several pair of wool socks on your feet without pinching your toes. We often ride in single digits, at night.
Thank you for sharing
I admire you for getting out there no matter what the weather.
Thanks for posting about this and the George connecting trail. Didn’t know they existed. 20 years ago I discovered Florida’s trail system. I live in NJ and I would head south to ride there during winter. Some seem so different than I expected. Seeing cowboys rounding up cattle along a trail there was not what I was expected. Might give this a try sometime.
Yeah, it gets colder than you'd think down here, but it usually warms up nicely by afternoon.
Sweet trail, dude.
Good Job with the video as usual. I just painted and "updated my drivetrain on my bicycle" and ready for a ride.
Ya gotta do The Silver Comet and Chief Ladiga together. Great Ride! The Comet is concrete so it's smoother than the Ladiga. Pretty hilly between Cedartown and Rockmart though. Lots of good stealth camping until just before Dallas. After that it's very populated and there are cameras along the trail.
Great video, thanks
Just a fair warning if I ever encounter the Traveling Thru schoolie your not getting away without either a coffee and a cigarette or a beer and pizza. Hope Henry the cat is doing well. Oh yea thats a nice trail.
What a nice trail! Thanks for sharing! Stay warm!
I hope you hit up the Silver Comet Trail. Its a pretty fun local ride, normally full of nice as heck people.
What an awesome trail and that bamboo forest was great. Thanks for the video and take care, Al
Another cool adventure. Well done
Thats my home state. Im on the road at the moment, but would love to catch a bike ride with ya sometime! Cheers!
Thanks for the update. Sweet trail! Didn't know bamboo would grow that well there. Regards to Henry.
What a gem of a trail! Here in New Jersey we are so far behind other states who've built trails such as this one. Safe journey back to PA!
Whoa your in Alabama! Im thinking about doing Anniston to Atlanta
