Freezing January Wild Camp
Спорт
I decided to head to the Peak District for my first wild camp of the year. From Edale, I headed along the Pennine Way and up Jacob's Ladder to the Kinder Plateau, where I camped at the Woolpacks. It was around -4 degrees celsius in the night and there was ice in puddles and massive icicles the next morning. Great to be out for the night, though!

I've only just discovered your channel today, but I've been bingeing for the past hour and I absolutely love it. Keep up the good work :)
These are ace! Loving the hiking/outdoors series you are providing.
I really enjoy your films Athena, such a sense of freedom! This one brought back many happy memories of rock climbing on Kinder south edges in my youth. Thank you!
Great video! You're inspiring me to forget about the temperature and to just get out there! Thank you for sharing.
I love your videos! I keep looking at my hiking gear but hesitate, you certainly are motivating me. Thankyou
Good vid, thanks for sharing, beautiful scenery ! looked like a good crisp ! wild camp to get the new year going ! 👍🙂
It's great to see you having such fun! Another charming video, I like your relaxed style.
Thank you for producing such a delightful film.
What a great video, i have walked and mountain bike this area all my life. So nice to see this and great job on leaving no mess behind and promoting that. As they say take only photos and leave only footprints
Thanks for the walk. Brings back old memories. We used to live inside the park near Whaley Bridge. Beautiful but it did rain a lot.
I enjoyed that, great video. Glad you managed to keep warm!
Excellent video, Athena. Jacob's Ladder is a bugger in anything other than perfect dry conditions, so well done, girl. Count me in, and I hope your channel goes stellar. Stay safe.
well said on leaving no trace you have a great attitude and mindset. carry it in carry it out looking forward to my next trip in May now after watching this video.
Loving you’re channel. Brilliant videos. I’ll be taking the big step soon enough. I’m v nervous but also v excited. Few more bits to get first and I’m a go go go. Lol. Peace to All. ❤️🙏
What a neat place to camp! Awesome morning views.. nice job 👍
Lovely film with a genuine & traditional feel to it. I.e not over produced. I enjoyed your day out on Kinder and will lookout for more of your videos.
Another brilliant video Athena! And it brought back memories for me as my BF and I hiked the same route up to Kinder Scout last spring and then down via the Grindsbrook Clough back to Edale. I remember all the beautiful heather and especially those two rocks where you camped - from a certain angle they look like kissing birds :) You are a true inspiration and I also loved your "leave no trace" shoutout. It's so so important! Thanks for sharing.

Love this channel only just discovered it!! Binging now!
Beautiful view to wake up to in the morning .Thanks for sharing your adventure
So refreshing to see a real map in use. (In contrast with slavish attachment to electronics) That alone made my day, but it was just icing on the cake. Keep it up.👍
Love the naturalness and sense of freedom your videos have. I like the little touches of showing us you have no problems stirring your soup with a twig, and, after you get your shot, you don't edit out the part where you turn back to retrieve your camera! Good stuff.
great vid good to point out leave no trace look forward to youre future vids
Enjoyed this video. Good work Athena
Great vid Athena! I often head over to the Lakes and hammock camp in the forests there but I have a new tent to test out so Kinder Scout might be a good shout.
Great video, I did that same wild camp back in October but we walked the other way round, can't wait to get back up there again:) cheers
Great video and such amazing scenery 👌
These vlogs are great examples of how easy it is to have an adventure if you pack the right kit and keep placing one foot in front of the other. Great stuff!

So painful! My fingers were frozen. They don't take long to warm up though once I get walking.
Great video! I too struggle with cold hands and the worst part is always putting the tent away in the morning, especially if it's cold AND wet! I need to get another wild camp penciled into my calendar soon!

I was so cold when I put my tent away! My gloves were too big to do the fiddly bits so had to keep taking them off. Not fun!

Absolutely loved this video and the soundtrack (following on Spotify now). New subscriber and wild camper.

Well done, the nights must have seen long that time of the year. Spent 3days up their last week wild camping mermaids pool and the small woods on Kinder River. First time but will be back. Its a very special place!
I agree, Kinders great if you’re travelling from a Manchester. Nice vid, subbed.
I'm loving your channel! Makes me want to go out hiking and camping :-)
Hi Athena. Nice video! Was this 2 weekends ago as I was up there last weekend and it was blanketed in snow!
Really really awesome video! You have made me miss good ol’ kinder scout! Such a great peak for adventures! 😊 Could you do a video on your hiking kit or maybe put it into the description? Your jacket looks incredibly warm and lightweight, I’ve tried to find a decent one and despite almost breaking the bank, I am still awaiting to find a decent one! 🙁 Awesome video again. ITS SO NATURAL!!!!
great vid Athena, really enjoyed it. atb
Great Video Keep Them Coming
This video reminded me of a very foggy winter walk years ago with a friend. I think we must have been on Kinder and wanted to find the top of Jacobs Ladder. We navigated really carefully across the moor and amazingly found the path with no deviation whatsoever. I have just texted my friend to ask him whether he remembers it. I put all the contents of my hall outside the front door this morning so I could wash the floor. Popped my head out the door to see whether it is raining and several pairs of boots were flung about all over the place. Next door's cat was rolling about wrestling with a boot!
brilliant vid and great to see a woman doing this kind of stuff, also brought back some pleasant memories for me, must be at least 30yrs since I was up there well past time I revisited the peaks

Lovely to watch as I sit on heaving commuter train. Stay free and enjoy.

Yes definitely! A fab place to wild camp
Hi, as lockdown started, I ended up searching for hiking videos on YT which led me to your channel. It also moved me to want to try wild camping. So I have a request, please can you do a video on how to pick a wild camping spot? Not so much the level ground, not across a footpath or in a dry riverbed bit, more what locations around the UK tolerate it and if there are places to avoid? I live just off the south of the Peak District so I am considering starting in the White Peak or Staffordshire Roaches. Thanks in hope 👍😁

Love a good camp on Kinder. If you go back up, you should try near the waterfall (Kinder Downflow). It's beautiful on a clear, windless night. I'd recommend the walk down Crowden Clough on the way back too, just like Grindsbrook but a little more challenging in my opinion :)

Great sound track! I find it endearing that you have this terrific kit for a walk-about and wild camp and you're stirring your soup with a twig! That minced meat pie looks delish. Nice reward.
Really enjoyed that nice one
You're going to be a superstar Athena without any effort at all on youtube. There's nothing I can add. This place is going to get swamped and the dialogue between you and I simply won't exist. All the very best to you. Mark
