Freewing F22 90mm Crash - Carnage!

Ойын-сауық

Freewing Raptor F-22 loses power 1:09 during takeoff then recovers only to later lose all power and control. Battery remaining was 42%. We had to hike across the lake to recover it. We were testing a newly installed gyro receiver. Seems like an ESC failure. All wires were still secured after recovery.

Gotta show the aftermath brother. I know it sounds morbid. But thats what happens. People love seeing the plane in pieces for some reason. Sorry that happend. I heared it lose power on take off. I would have laned it right away. Probably your battery. This had happen to me twice. It even happend to me with a new battery.

Sounds like the common problem everyone has had with those cheap admiral gyro receivers. Read too many horrible reviews to buy one of those to put in my F22 which I just ordered today. I went with the Spektrum A637T. Cost a whole lot more, but when you invest $800 or so bucks in a 100 MPH edf. It's best to just put the most reliable receiver in there. Hope everything turned out okay. I'm sure it's repairable.

I don't fuck with gyros... I had 1 failure on my helicopter a 230s i thought i was trippen but i rebuilt the heli then recalibrated it like the manual says went to fly it and about 30 seconds in it did a complete rollover ... I don't need no gyro been flying without one for 15 years.. I would say maybe for beginners but not experienced pilots.. And horizon hobby said they don't cover that under warranty so don't use them.. It's like everything else we get dependent on that we don't need and never had in the past... Just my 2 cents..

I had the same issue with my F-4 and seems to be a common problem with FW lately

Luis, man I’m sorry! That was my kind of luck. You weren’t up long enough for a fully charged battery to give out. The F-22 is my next purchase. I’d love to know what you found out.

If you look at the video at 1:09 as the gear and flaps are coming up, it lost power for a second or two. You can hear me saying “oh no, what was that?”. But it was fine until the approach landing when it lost all control and no power. It took us around 30 minutes to recover the plane which was still on but wet. My friend got to it first and he unplugged it, so don’t know if any beeps or lights that could explain the cause. The battery is a Thunder Power Rampage 5000mAh 80C and still had 42% remaining and all cells were almost equal. I have nearly a dozen flawless flights with the same sets of batteries. However, this flight was the first flight with the newly installed Admiral Receiver with gyro. You can hear when I was turning on the gyro and testing it. All wiring was intact noting came lose. In fact, I turned on the plane yesterday to try to reproduce the failure and it all works fine. Not sure if it was an ESC failure or receiver.

i think it's receiver.. admiral receiver is in fact produced by lemon.. you can google "lemon receiver". it's about 10 bucks in chinese market..on the other hand, freewing stock receiver is so much more reliable compared to this receiver. Besides, if it's ESC problem, you should have some control because of external BEC. very unlikely, imho.

It was the receiver, man, it made me lost at least 4 jets. I used admiral too same problem but now use spektrum, nothing happen

It went into fail safe the ESC it stops receiving pulses from the receiver when it loses link to the transmitter the ESC shuts down the motor so it won't fly away default on all ESC's. This is why most electrics don't have to set a failsafe where in a gas or nitro you need to set it to idle so it won't fly away without any control. This has happend to me where get intermittent power as you fly it away from you. That's when you want to turn it back towards you and land when I used to fly Spektrum and lemon receiver's had this problem a few times I got rid of lemon and Spektrum.

Taking a wild guess here but it sounds like you may have had a BEC problem. Anytime you toggle flaps and gear such as during take off and landing approach is when you appeared to loose the power. If the BEC had a major brownout it will cause receiver to no longer receive power and down you go. Hitting the ground/lake likely jared things around and made it come back on. Looks like a long brown out to me. The ESC failing wouldn't have caused that due to the external BEC in the plane. I have been having receiver issue's with mine as well and I have a satellite receiver in mine. I get a ton of fades on this plane but same receiver in another plane I get none. Sorry for your loss total loss or fixable? It's a heavy bird so landing nose down like that wouldn't have been conducive to it's health for sure.

Stay away from Gyro once they screw up and they do that’s it happened to me with a E-flight gyro on my jet, but Horizon, Hobby replaced my Jet and now I just use a regular receiver. Didn’t need assistance flying No more training wheels on my Jets
