I have to say that technical points difference between Dale beg Smith and Ronkainen were not that big. Ronkainen was faster and he had more demanding jumps. Still Dale beg Smith got more points. Only Ronkainens second landing was a bit un balanced.

Yeah I wonder if they scored speed maybe 33% of the total or used a logarithmic scale whether many of the results would change. (I'm sure Patrick Deneen would have had more wins in his career.) I get why they need to keep it a safe sport- gates do the job in alpine- but turn points will always be subjective. Really the speed should be timed in the middle section only- you shouldn't be penalized for slowing up a bit to execute better and safer jumps.

Begg-Smith had 0.9 points over Ronkainen in turns & line--50% of the score. His time was 0.81 seconds slower, but that only cost him 0.28 pts. He did lower difficulty jumps, but did them extremely well and that cost him 0.47 pts. Execution helped him squeak by with 0.15 pts.
