Freemasonry - The "Stupid Atheist"

The requirement for a candidate to hold a belief in a supreme being is a fundamental prerequisite for becoming a Freemason. While there are exceptions, such as the Grand Orient in France, where for a number of historical reasons beyond the scope of tonight’s paper this is not the case, belief in Deity is central to the Freemasonry which has descended from the establishment of the united Grand lodge in England in 1717.
Charges in the Craft make reference to either ‘Irreligious libertines’ or ‘stupid atheists’ or both when discussing this requirement. Tonight’s anonymous paper, dating from 1932 explores this topic more fully, and comes up with some insightful reflections on its true meaning.
I hope you enjoy it.

Wonderful Masonic presentation highlighting the Masonic requirement and concepts of Deity. The Rosicrucian Order, AMORC, uses the term "God of Our Hearts" when referring to individual concepts of Deity. Thanks so much! 🎅👏👏🤶🎄

Define "undefined." If you attribute attributes to a deity, such as all knowing, all powerful, and all knowing, didn't you just give definition to it? If so, then the deity can't be "undefined". A point I'd like to make is that this essay that was read is only one person's conception of Freemasonry's definition of deity and does not speak for the fraternity or for all members.

Every human has a different concept of God, they create their god by their thinking..by their thinking and praying to their god they give creative energy to their god..when people quit worshipping a certain god, the power of the god and the god disappear.. the gods are always fighting for power as you can see by what is taking place in Israel aka Palestine..if people quit worshipping the gods they would totally disappear because people quit sending light or creative energy to their god..

How do you parse all the errors and evils of the Bible? It’s stupid to follow a god who wants “Burt offerings” of your child. “Yaweh” the war god becoming the main god of humanity is.. fitting I suppose.

All intelligence but unaware of dinosaurs or the age of the universe, all loving but disallowing of the usage of free will in almost every sense, and all understanding but cannot understand one coming to the conclusion of his absence based merely on the texts describing his reality. Youre without critical thought, and manipulated by the fear of hell. That’s it. When you die you won’t be able to think “oh shit yeah it was all a lie” With it Christianity you have people who think they get their own planets and multiple wives, you have people who think only 144,000 go to heaven and there’s probably around 50,000 spots left, and everyone who cherry picks what they’re comfortable following. God would condemn you all. Above all false idolatry

Atheist is a strange word. It's like saying McDonalds is a restaurant. The statement needs clarification. Pronouncing oneself atheist, to me, appears without depth of self introspection. What are they denying? The religion of their place of birth, culture, or an others concept of the divine? That doesn't make you an atheist! Deity can be as simple as faith in oneself and obligation.

Denying what’s posited by religious texts. There isn’t a single religious text without error. The word of god filtered through mortals shouldn’t sit well with ANYONE

And McDonald’s is a restaurant. A hamburger is also a sandwich.
