Freeing a Tree that Gets Hung Up - Without Dying - Stuck Douglas fir tree.
Ойын-сауық
I was felling a Douglas fir tree and it got hung up in some other trees. I use my Massey Ferguson tractor with a Farmi 501 tractor winch to try to get it unstuck. In this small scale logging operation, I am harvesting bug killed Douglas fir to mill some timbers and lumber on my Woodmizer LT15 Start sawmill.

Thank you, if I knew what it was, I would try to do more of it.

That tractor is the cats meow, amazing you don’t need to ever throttle up to pull that big timber . Fun toy and fun to watch . 🍻

I usually only throttle up if I need some speed. Otherwise it usually has enough power at idle. Thanks for the comment.
Applied Physics of first order 👌I do appreciate your no non-sense approach with conservation of nature in everything you do as a forestry entrepreneur. Compliments for the consideration you gave to the dead Douglas fir by leaving it to the benefit of Mother Nature. 👍
My most sincere thanks to the guy who invented the tractor.
Impressive what can be done with just a good tractor, some good cables and some solid know-how.

A few good snatch blocks also make life easier too.

Yes the blocks are a vital part of it.
You, sir, are a dangerous man doing very dangerous work. Stay safe, my friend.
Enjoyed that video. You make finagling that tree around where you want it look pretty easy. For me, I'm working with my congressman to pass a law against trees that fall the wrong way.

You can tell your congressman, if they need any help getting that law passed, they have my full support. 😁
Applause for your decision on leaving the big ol' dead Doug-fir standing for the critters. More snags! Your local wildlife will thank you. (Or maybe just indifferently go about their business.) I always tell the hung-up trees: "You can't win. I'm the one with the steel implements." They still make me sweat for it though. BTW, I have used the "dead as a doornail" trivia with folks; like "lock, stock and barrel" or "dialing it in" to utilize old expressions in a modern context. Another good 'un and another Likeroo. Cheers from Linn County

Without my steel implements I would be pretty much worthless against these trees. The old sayings can be fun. I might do a bit about those in the near future. I will have to come up with some filler videos as I slow down in the woods for the summer.
That tree just thought it was going to win. Wrong tractor wins again

Yes the tractor has a good track record. Especially since it has its friends like the chainsaw, blocks, etc. to help out.

I figured since you posted the video, you probably didn't die. Nice job getting that unstuck.

Don’t you just hate when that happens ???? But again some expertise and some great equipment it can be controlled . Great job

Yes getting trees hung up is not my favorite. At least in this case I was mentally prepared knowing it would likely happen. And this one came down relatively easily. I have had much worse. Thanks for the comment.
Slowmo limbing was very satisfying.

When I set up the camera for that shot I accidentally turned it on slow motion. While editing, I too found it to be satisfying, so I left it that way. Thanks for confirming it wasn’t just me.
Since we get all kinds of advice on here when we get a tree stuck I can help out with advice, (Should use a bigger saw) (Should have used a different brand saw) (should be using a wedge) (Should have used a bigger wedge) ( You're not wearing proper safety equipment) and here is the best one ( should hire a professional) I think that covers it. Oh wait one more.....Tree murderer!

I think you missed one. I fell it in the wrong direction.
Does everyone start their Stihl left handed??
@WilsonForestLands
Жыл бұрын
I think a lot of people do it right handed. I think most people start them with them on the ground or with the back handle between their legs. I think the way I start mine is a little unusual. Since the rope is on the left side it makes sense to me to start it with the left hand.
