8:40 As a kid, I use to think this was an actual factory. Never ever went inside there, because of this mindset. I'm so glad to see it empty. It looks like an afterthought to something that never materialized.
A lot of people don't know that this was an abandon trackway for years until Amtrak decided to rebuild it. As a kid growing up on 155th Street and Riverside drive, i use to walk along this section when it was a single track. Than in the 1980s, the MTA decided to rebuild this section and we got what we had today. But when they first started service, the entire line wasn't gated like this until a child was killed. So you could still walk from the park to open trackway. By the way, Amtrak ran out of Grand Central Station for points north.
The backround music kicks ass.

This is not an abandoned tunnel. It is used by Amtrak to go to upstate NY from Penn Station.

Correct, but in the 70s only freight was using the tunnel and not very regularly. We went down there a lot to explore. Sometimes a gang would be there and we'd run away. Sometimes we'd walk to the ballfields on 106th and there was a hole in the gate there to get back out.

@@Mnrr6131 maybe, but that's in the Bronx, isn't it? I only know there was a small yard where this tunnel ended around 60th St. So long ago now, hard to recall. Back then the Henry Hudson Pkwy was elevated and had just been abandoned. That area has changed tremendously the past 40 years.

Dude lowkey this is incredible. This place looks so sinister, I imagine it being some sort of hideout if a zombie outbreak were to ever occur up above like a movie/ video game I can’t imagine how sketchy it is in real life. Hopefully one day I can explore this and be accompanied.

Papa I do! So, the trains run on a schedule, about every hour in the half hour I believe. If you hear a train coming, duck out of sight because of the drivers see you they may call security, but it’s pretty unlikely. Occasionally security patrols the tunnel on ATVs but the tunnel is large enough and dark enough that you should have plenty of time to duck out of sight as long as you’re super aware of your surroundings.

Why are you running as soon as you jumped on the tracks? It might spice up your content but that's also exactly the sort of suspicious behavior that makes people alert the authorities. You could consider to just climb the fence and once on the tracks put on a fluorescent vest + maybe a safety helmet if you have space enough in the backpack.,and just act casual. nobody would even care because it's not uncommon for railway personnel to walk the tracks and you would fit that description well enough.

Henry Hudson Parkway-9A
14:35 This is what I called a city atop of two cities. One city exist on that Bridge called Riverside Drive and the other city exist on 12th Avenue, which is where you are running. 12th Avenue was no man's land 70s/80s. But I seen in 2014, it has been developed. 12 Avenue was also extended past 135th Street as an extension of the controversial Riverbank Park of the 1990s. Riverbank Park was built as a compromise to a sewage plant as the original plan was to put it around 72nd Street. But the community in this area had powerful lawyers so they settle for this area, because the area did not have powerful lawyers. There is a lot of information about the controversy about this plant and for me, it still is today. This extended the M11 bus (extended from Broadway 133rd Street) and BX19 bus lines. The 4 Bus no longer follows the 5 bus to Riverside Drive and the rush hour 5 bus no longer extends north along Riverside Drive. 12th Avenue also appears again at 61st Street from a street that I see now exist as Riverside Blvd. It also appears to connect to Riverside Drive as a cross street, which did not exist back when I walk through this section back in 1980s and 90s. There was an apartment building blocking any southern direction similar to 5th Avenue and 23rd Street. By the way, if you look at subway history, a lot of Avenues were blocked off like this until the subway gave reason to demolish buildings along this path. That's how we got varrick street from 7th Avenue and Church Avenue from 6th Avenue. So it is interesting to see these two areas connect in this way. Riverside officially ends at 181st where it becomes Henry Hudson Parkway. The cars are now on the right side of the pedestrian pathway and Riverside Park itself. 12th Avenue appears briefly again at around 200 Dyckman Street.

I just looked at your video because I am interested in the freedom tunnel, but here is some tips for you. 1 If you are not a professional and don't have professional gear don't move your camera or yourself. Stand still. You got a cheap camera and it has a terrible time focusing and getting the lighting right. What it is able to do you mess up by swapping the camera about. You can at least stand still for a few seconds. 2 Learn to observe your environment for interesting shots. You missed some of the most interesting depictions or what is left of it. 3 Edit your movies.Cut out the running stuf, specifically at the end. It is minutes of you running. 4 Write down what you are going to do. Just don't run into something because you want to. Because of this you basically cause 2. You can watch a few movies about this tunnel and even read books to get an idea where things were or ought to be. You could have taken a look at what was left of Chris Papes work. You just totally missed all of it, or what is left because you had no plan and just ran into it without thinking.
