Freedom Flashmob at Boardwalk - Santa Cruz, CA - March 20, 2022 - Song by JON BATISTE
Coming out of much heaviness and separation, on March 20, 2022, togetherness, joy and lots of energy erupted into the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk echoing the contagious jubilation of Jon Batiste’s song "Freedom".
When Jon Batiste released his song, he put a call out for people to send him videos of them singing or dancing to it. Here we answered his call.

My sentiments exactly, Jon Batiste He is filled with love and he is sharing love I wish we would all listen.

JB is a once in a lifetime talent! He sure does spread The Sound of Music over our painfully hurting planet. This gift of his, from his haunting falsetto to his moves like no other, is coming at us during a time of unrest and deep depression. May he continue to remind us that life is a precious gift from God.

Things are a bit difficult for women here in the U.S. rt now . We have had a major set back in our rights. Seeing the joy ,and power in these women's hearts brought me to tears.

I love flash mob videos. I wish one would happen by me. Lol. And this was great. I love this song so much. Props to these guys for navigating that crowded boardwalk. And I got a lot of joy seeing some elderly people grooving on the side. That will be me someday. Lol.

When this randomly popped up on KZread, I was excited to watch because 1)Jon Batiste and this song and 2) it’s at the Boardwalk-I lived in Santa Cruz for 12 years. But ALSO because, in addition to the ocean and hummingbirds, the thing I miss most about living in SC is my dance classes with Geena at Worldanz--I just knew she had to be involved with this, and sure enough, here she is! Bringing moves and spreading joy, as she does. Those classes were so cathartic and joyful for me-no judgement, all community. This video made me feel the same way. Good to see this dance community still thriving and great to see Geena dancing and smiling! Thank you for this ❤️

Saw the title and immediately thought of Jon Batiste's song and soon as those first notes played after the drum beas,I knew it was and I just cried the whole video. Beautiful and a perfect flash mob song. Especially on the first day of spring!

Yes, we have freedom. Santa Cruz is like this. New and old hippies, nerds, people of all colors, college students. We love the boardwalk which has been there for over a century. Garish. Perhaps, but we all love the place. It also has one of the oldest and fun wooden roller coasters in the world. And what’s the problem with people having fun.

it reminds me of all the great Grateful dead shows that were like flash mob parties. such fun and freedom.
I grew up in Santa Cruz, worked on the Boardwalk, ran the ferris wheel and other rides. It's changed some, but the vibe is pretty much the same. Jon's song fits perfectly. A great place to have lived in, for sure.
