Superb stuff. Thank you. I have just started changing over from Scrivener to Obsidian. I used it previously for running D&D, but I am astounded with just how much power and potential there is in it for writing!

I was struggling today to find a useful beginner's how-to for Obsidian in the year 2023. This is it! Even if I wasn't going to use it for writing or use Longform, the first part of this video really helped me navigate and get started with multiple projects using Obsidian. Thank you! Subscribed!!

If I had known that a free program like this could write books this well, my suffering would have been greatly reduced XD Thank you so much! That is such a well-done tutorial and easy to follow. I will try to write my next book in it and see how well it fares. I will have to finish my current one on Scrivener trial (I had bought it for the iPad, but my laptop is new so I run the trial) but the next will be in Obsidian! :D

I installed Obsidian yesterday and uninstalled Scrivener. I had no idea at the time that Obsidian could have Scrivener-like capabilities. I just didn't enjoy Scrivener anytime I tried to use it, although I could see its potential. I'm really excited about writing in Obsidian. Thanks for showing how.

Hi, great tutorial! Thank you so much. May I ask you if there is a way to create a list of references linked to citations in the article, say for a systematic review, like one would do using zotero in Ms word.

There are a few options, it depends what you want to do with them. For a bibliography, using a markdown citation in the text and pandoc gives you a manuscript. For footnotes in Obsidian that work for export you can use either of the markdown footnote syntaxes. I use a footnote plugin.

Danny nice video and I like this series on how to use plugins. Question: Is there a way to compile your MOC in one md document for export in Word? Lats say MOC has links to Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc and all chapters have links to Act 1, Act 2, etc. Transclusion works just on the first level (chapters).

  • @DannyHatcherTech

Exporting to a word doc from and md file is through pandoc (my preference). The longform plugin can 'compile' those files together so the export is easier. With transclution the export become much harder.

@@DannyHatcherTech I get that Longform can compile but the problem is when you do ZK method your MOC of permanent notes is manuscript finished you don't need to arrange anything. Do you know a workflow to do that?

Hello Danny. I want to use the Obsidian application for my engineering education. Although I tried with a clipper and a chrome md text download plugin, I couldn't do exactly what I wanted. When I uploaded the mathematics codes prepared for mathematics students into the application in md format, I saw that mathematical expressions in many subjects such as fraction lines in rational expressions, rooted numbers, exponential expressions of numbers, limits, derivatives, integrals could not occur smoothly as they appear on the site. If there is a solution that I can note all the expressions on the page in the same way, please help me. By the way, there is no copyright infringement. The information on the site is provided for our benefit.

I do clip webpages directly into Obsidian. My flow uses Zotero for highlights but even with that, getting math to show I believe would require latex. I think you need to explore some of those plugins.

I Always receive SO Much from your Obsidian Instruction! I Added the “ZOOM” Plugin {{which forced me to hugely DARKEN my Internal LINKs’ Color-So I’m not Blinded by ZOOM’s Link-Headings!!}}; Wow! Amazing Plugin!-And it makes Bulleting More Powerful since I can now isolate each bullet as desired. Such foresight by the Founders to make Plugins Foundational to their app-a view with which Kepano is also in agreement-indeed: it’s a key reason he was added to the leadership.

  • @DannyHatcherTech

Indents are like other writers - use tab or shift tab. If you are referring to a single line indtent that is formatting which I would do in a text formatting program like word or scrivener...
