FREE WILEY. Rashford and Lingard virtue signalling to protect brand. My take on the situation.

A short monologue from insta sharing my view on the current situation with Wiley. Cancel Culture is getting a bit too much, I get the feeling the internet/ social media is creating a false perception of reality in people’s minds.
There’s so much nuance to unpack when people speak their minds. People can’t always find the words to cohesively express their true meaning, so they choose inadequate words instead, sometimes offensive one. But removing people from discourse doesn’t help.
People shouldn’t be apologising for taking a picture they clearly wanted to take. Furthermore Wiley should be continuously removed from social media.
What’s your take on the situation and current state of cancel culture?

Hit the nail on the head mate and articulated the situation perfectly. What is going on is utterly ridiculous. This whole cancel culture thing is one of the most toxic things to appear in society in recent years. The amount of virtue signalling and lack of critical thinking and inability to read between the lines from people is truly astounding

It was one mistake.surly people can see that. He didn’t kill anyone he didn’t physically hurt anyone. He said a few bad things. That’s it. But that does not deserve what he is going through, people only see him being taken out on Twitter and Instagram but it’s what goes on behind all that. His family don’t deserve what’s going on. So so sad man. All we can do is stay with him n support what he does.

💯. He made a mistake. We all do. But the way he is being treated you would think he wanted to harm someone. It’s ridiculous and quite honestly fucked up. You can’t just mute people. I hope more people see they need to stand up for people like Wiley or at some point their won’t be anyone to stand up for.

Excellent 👍 cancel culture is amplified by bots and burner accounts on twitter. Talk to anyone in person and the vast majority of people just want to get on with their lives and don’t care about “cancelling”. Good work man

So true, things get blown out of proportion unnecessarily. That’s why is so important that people like Rashford and Lingard don’t panda.

It really has gone to far, you can’t just go on removing people from social discourse. Thanks for watching as always :) .

What an absolute load of nonsense. The guy knows how to articulate his thoughts perfectly, he is a rapper! That's how he made his living. A couple of weeks ago he posted a video asking Jewish people why Hitler hated them, how else are you meant to interpret that? Also, it's not been just a one off throwaway comment that he made that you could forgive, it's been sustained sporadically for nearly two years. You Sir are enabling and apologising for someones racism and what makes it worse is you sound intelligent enough to realise that.

It would seem you are not educated enough in the nuance of communication, this is why people champion freedom of speech. A rapper isn’t necessarily particularly good at pulling words together in conversation or debate. This is in fact well documented, most rappers are indeed the complete opposite - creatives who open up with music and textures. Even if he had repeated things 1000 times the point still remains - he is not the best at forming his views in a socially cohesive way. You don’t cancel someone for that. You clearly don’t really know the man at all. Before choosing offence you should remember every adult is just a grown up child, their framing of views and situations is subject to upbringing education and emotional pallet - most of which is formed in your early years before you are able to take control yourself. I’m open to debate, if your position is one of substance and not just implicit offence.

Judaism isn’t a race it’s a religion. No comments are racist. From what I’ve witnessed from the Jewish community it’s damn right bullying. I’ve lost all respect for that community.

@@sharina_s8468 Skipped school? Jews are a race. Do you think eg. Hitler cared about the religion Judaism? No ofc not, he wanted to eridicate the Jewish race, religious or not. When people talk about Jewish people they don't mean the Religion, but the race. are you 12 or something

@@deadcatjordan I really believe in second chances and was a HUGE wiley fan since early days of grime. Whatever he said, he's a true original and unique in his uncompromising attitude to selling out - so I genuinely wanted to see him win. But at the end of the day, what he said was a racist diatribe by a public figure, with a large audience and a group of dedicated fans. He made a dehumanising generalisation about a group of people which we simply shouldn't tolerate in an enlightened society. I feel the same way about equivalent comments toward any race or minority - black, asian, muslim etc. - because history shows us that cultural acceptance of dehumanising remarks can lead to incredibly dark places. Yelling 'cancel culture' isn't an answer - we need to stamp down hard on racism because otherwise it can creep into the veins of our society and lead to discrimination, violence and mayhem. Wiley deserves a second chance, but only if he demonstrates that he genuinely understands why what he said was wrong, and gives a sincere apology. Instead, what we got was a token apology, followed by a load of comments doubling down on his original (racist) perspective. So until he sorts his head out, he can stay outside looking in.
