The friction comment was gold and very few people hone in on this aspect. Before buying the vitruvian I knew about myself that constantly switching weights and equipment brought my workout momentum to a standstill, I would easily lose motivation and phone in workouts. By removing the tedious tasks of working out I've been more consistent over the last year than I have at any other point in my life. I'm increasing strength and muscle mass in my 40s more than I did in my 20s.

I'm totally new to weightlifting and bought a Vitruvian. I'm loving this thing. Seeing and feeling the gains already, enjoying the app, the accessories are top quality, and it takes up barely any room. Really didn't love the price at first, but so far it feels worth it.

All you need is some overhead pulleys with a cable extension that you could attach to the Vitruvian, then you've added a ton of increased value with pull down exercises.

I will stick to the gym. It's free, has everything you could ever need and all equipment is the highest quality you can buy. Only downside is that I have to share it with others. Oh well

Nice video and good comparison if you are going after a top dollar brand in Rogue and full set of dumbbells. Another option buyers should consider is a well equipped functional trainer using weight stacks. Small footprint, low price point, and it gives pretty much the same exercises digital strength machines offer.

Funny, I'm exactly the opposite, I have the Vitruvian and a set of hex-dumbbells, my concern isn't space or money (to a point ofc.) I'm HORRIBLE at recording what I'm doing, and the Vitruvian simply does it for me, I don't have to go to my whiteboard and interrupt my workout changing out plates or anything like that, just keep working and I'm good. I like being able to push a workout completely to failure so the burnout option is great.

For someone who is into H.I.T training of heavy duty from Mike mentzer this is ideal, it’s a perfect match for this style of training, only downside there is no option for a pull down only rows

I love mine!! I'm a noob to lifting as well and started back in January and now I'm addicted to lifting weights and totally understand why so many people love lifting and working out. It is a bit pricey but I consider it an investment on my overall health. It's an amazing machine point-blank.

With a functional trainer like the Inspire Fitness SF3 and FT2 you can get a lot more functionality with about the same weight capacity (SF3 at a lower cost). And you wont have to worry about motors or electronics going bad, power being out or membership cost. I think these electronic gyms are too costly, a lower entry price would bring in a lot more sales for them.

Those look pretty nice, but theres a also a few other issues to keep in mind. One being that it’s a smith machine, which is not preferred by many. The other being it is massive/heavy so outside of a garage setting, would not be ideal for within a small home or apartment (also would not fit most home ceilings as it needs a ceiling taller than 8ft). And for the SF3, it’s also over 100lbs less resistance. I don’t disagree that it would be nice to see digital weight machines become cheaper, but that’ll likely happen overtime as they become more popular.

I've been looking at this piece of equipment but have one safety concern. Is there any safeguard to someone hacking into the system and changing the weights on you? For instance, is there any failsafe that prevents a bad actor from hacking into your system and changing the weight to 400 lbs while you're performing a barbell bench press?

Are you concerned that your spotter might be out to get you? Are you concerned your safeties on your rack will have been sawed through by an enemy? Your concern is paranoid to a crazy degree.

First off, thank you for your excellent in-depth reviews. I've been searching for something like this. Do you have any videos comparing the different systems like Tonal, Vitruvian, Tonal, etc all in one video to get a better pro and cons to help make a decision on which system is best for ourselves?

I have a review of speediance up. Im probably going to wait for a comparison video until after the new small version of speediance comes out in a month or so. I haven’t fully reviewed Tonal, but I have a video up called “top 5 alternatives to Tonal” where there is more of a comparison of the pros/cons.

@@ConnectTheWatts Thank you! I think Tonal is way outside my budget. It gets pricey. I have the Nordictrack i32 Treadmill and S22i cycle but am wanting more for muscle building and honestly the integrated workouts are the only way I manage to stay consistent and love seeing the data tracked so you can monitor progress.

I wonder what the comparison would be like if you chose dumbbells like the Boflex adjustable weights. I would imagine that would save space and cost 4:49

  • @ConnectTheWatts

    @ConnectTheWatts

certainly true. There are some adjustable dumbbells that go up to 80+lbs and could lower the cost/space a good amount, though they tend to a bit harder/more uncomfortable to use and have less durability.

i got my barbell, 45s through 10s and a rack for the weights for $130 on fb marketplace , and paid another $40 for a bench. This is more than enough to get you set up- (and if you didn’t want to spend money on a bench, you could deadlift it up to your knees and bench). every squat starts with a clean. I don’t think there are these budget options for tonal or vitruvian.

I'm no longer in love with the gym. It's just way too crowded for me, and with my lower back issue there's a lot I can no longer really do at the heavy weights I used to. I do like working out at home and have a Peloton. Which is great because they have a bunch of strength training options. But that requires getting more equipment, and I live in an apartment. So the Vitruvian looks like a great option because I can easily tuck it under the couch when not in use. My only real issue is the cost of membership, but I've been going to the gym since I was 15. I don't need classes. If I want to track all my stats, I have an Apple Watch and can track traditional and functional weight training.

Customizing concentric and eccentric is huge. Imagine a bar bell magically weighing 50lb on the way up and 70lb on the way down. Then the next set, 70lb on the way up and 50lb on the way down. Talk about muscle confusion. + up to 440lbs !!! I'm def buying with my credit card soon. $60 a month to own vs a gym membership. Easy decision!
