This is one of the best lessons about playing lead guitar. That's a bold statement I realize. But it's true. It answers the aged old question: do I practice scales or arpeggios and the answer is yes. This really is the path. And then Gypsy Queen is a whole other lesson. Bravo Joe, you're truly brilliant musician and gifted teacher. Tyvm

I agree with Tyvm for uberjam -Sam I’ve been playing for 61 of my 71 yrs and it was such a great way for people learn how to be creative and have fun .
This is the BEST guitar lesson for Black Magic Woman. The method, style and information on playing solos within the Dmin Natural Scale really helped me improve my musical understanding and overall guitar playing ability so in many ways. Greatly appreciated!
I'm about to be all over this lesson. Thank you for sharing.
An excellent (and thorough) lesson! By the way, I think the organ motif at the beginning of Santana's version was probably inspired by Gabor Szabo's "Gypsy Queen", the song that "Black Magic Woman" eventually merges into on the "Abraxas" album. It might be interesting to know, also, that the blueprint that Peter Green used when he wrote "Black Magic Woman" was a blues standard by Otis Rush, "All Your Love (I Miss Lovin')". In turn, Otis got his inspiration from an obscure blues instrumental called "Lucky Lou", by Jody Williams. As for the Strat not having a voice, I'm not going to argue with Robben Ford of course, but I think it depends on who plays it. IMHO, it certainly has a voice in the hands of the likes of Jimi Hendrix, SRV or Ronnie Earl.
I click on the like button even before I watch your videos, Joe.
Hey Joe, awesome lesson, would you do tutorial of your acoustic version of this track, it’s my favourite cover. ✌🏻
Great video , like your ideas on improvising to find your own voice . Keep up the good work , very much appreciated .
Its amazing and full credit to Joe that he took the time to do this video and others. It is so helpful to even beginners and the simplicity of his teaching is what makes this whole lesson so incredible. I learned a lot just from this lesson alone. I hope that a lot more people sees his channel and subscribe to it. Thanks a lot Joe.
Thanks Joe. I have been waiting for this one with great anticipation since your performance cover. Another masterpiece! Cheers!👍👍

Awesome as always Joe. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
So cool! Few months ago I asked for a home studio recorded version of the song when you posted the video playing at the rehabilitation center, and now we got even a full lesson! I always like to get your approach on improvs even though I already know the theory behind. Such an awesome player 😍🔥
Outstanding video that not only teaches what to play and where to play it within the song but also teaches "Why" you should play the target notes to sound much better .. Great Tutorial Joe , you`re a very humble player with a uniqueue , easy layed back way of teaching ..

Wow MR Joe soso much in one lesson thanks glad too follow
Thanks, you made me feel better about myself by suggesting improvising. I started doing that as a beginner years ago, and other guitar players telling me, Jerry, you're playing it wrong. I would say to then, that I don't want to just be a juke box hero, I want to sound like Jerry. So again, thanks.
This lesson is like a zip-file: in 22 minutes teaching a wonderful song, giving a guide to improvisation and playing beautiful examples - let's unzip the lesson and start soloing to the backing track!
Looper for the intro!
Big thanks!

Anyone have any tips on learning the fretboard. I am mostly self taught and love fingerstyle and i am trying to learn more theory stuff. Understanding the fretboard and knowing all the notes is something I know I need to know I just dont know a good way of going about learning it.
BMW is actually by Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac. Santana covered it of course quite well.

Peter Green just wrote the music. Bill Clinton lived the lyrics.
