    Did that on my 2016. The results were NOT like aftermarket. I have since out on Crusher Trydents, then Vance and Hines Turndowns (loved them), but hit a deer, they are no longer available, so I put on Rhineheart slims header and Rhineheart 4" muffler. Love them. Free is ok, but not the same.

    Did you feel any difference in the low end torque? I heard the M8s require back pressure to perform proper. Which the cat would still provide. Any thoughts?

  • @JonsMotorcycles

    @JonsMotorcycles

    No performance differences, the cat is the main restriction which is in the heads. What I Did is very similar to just putting on slip ons, doesn’t require a tune.

    Great cheap sound mod. My thoughts on the left pipe taking longer than the right: You did the right one first so the hole saw blade was brand new. By the time you moved to the left, the blade may have been dulled a bit, maybe not enough to see, but enough to take longer. The silver ring in the left muffler was much more pronounced than the right, leading me to come to the same conclusion. Although you may have lost low-end torque slightly, based on loss of back pressure, it's probably not too noticeable. Again, great video and thanks for sharing.

    I watched a video yesterday of a guy using a cut off wheel to cut out the baffles. I thought that’s too risky. Your method was a lot safer IMO. I have also watched a lot of videos of people drilling out the CATs to remove those. Now I’m wondering if a hole saw would be a better way to go. I have an old head pipe off a 2016 that I put the V&H header on. I just sold that bike so I was going to take it to the dump, but now I think I’ll try a hole saw on it to see if that’s an easy DIY. If it works maybe some one might want to buy it.

    If you can afford the $30,134.00 for the motorcycle don’t go El Cheapo ! I put Rinehart 4.5 OBX mufflers , a Screamin Eagle 🦅 intake , a HD tuner & was properly tuned at the dealership’s dyno ! Within in two months of purchase so it’s covered under factory warranty. You just Voided Your Warranty ! My bike sounds much better also .

    Modifying this muffler isn't voiding the warranty any more than you did by putting Rineharts on. As long as the catalytic converter is still in the exhaust won't be an issue for warranty claims.

    Harley scares us folk by hanging warranty over our heads. This fear ensures them that we pay for the high maintenance services. The way I see it, the savings by not always going to Harley for services and parts will well cover any Catastrophic failed you may experience.

    The only way this would void your warranty is if they could prove that the baffles removed were the cause of “SAID” problem.

    Just a heads up- 1. Unlike the new M8 softail, the bagger still has catalytic converters in the head pipe. If you'd like to make performance modifications, cams, tuning, etc.. people will tend to change the full exhaust system to increase airflow. They also use "stepped" head pipes to increase acoustic/sonic characteristics of the exhaust flow from the heads. 2. This isn't a performance build for me. I had the option to spend $500+ dollars to get decent sound out of my bike, or try a DIY quick fix. In the future, if I change my mind, I can always buy an exhaust. 3. Most people don't buy a 920 pound touring Harley for performance. For me it's all about the feel you get while riding one! -Cheers

    How so? The M8 does not require a retune for slip-on's and this mod just removes the baffles. Doesn't affect the back pressure since the Cat is in the heads anyways.
