FREE SKATING CALGARY
I ♡ Calgary. The best city for skating. In this video Downtown and Anderson LRT Station.
Skating by Shaun Unwin
Filming by Alex Co and Shaun Unwin
Skates - Shop Task Wizard complete.
Wheels - Undercover Mushroom Blading 100mm/865A
Bearings - Twincam Storm
Recently, Alex Co and I have been experimenting with a different style of video. We started with a series on jumping. The jumping tutorial series is one of my favourite projects. However, I am eager to get back to some city skating - my true love.
We begin with a few lines at the Anderson C-train station. The C-train station has long ramps that connect the parking lot with the train platform. These ramps are a perfect drop in; creating a rush of speed into a obstacle rich parking area. While filming I had the idea of combining Alex's filming style with selfie GoPro filming.
Excited with the new idea. Alex and I reunited a few days later for an early morning skate through a few spots downtown Calgary. Here we carefully planned out a few lines where we could combine our two filming techniques to create new viewing experience.
Thanks for watching.

    i think what i appreciate most about these videos is the fact that you keep with the fundamentals for a very smooth, controllable style. for example, your "predator position" always looks the same. my own style is more along the lines of improvisation. my legs often look like theyre flailing through crossovers and who knows what my arms do. if im not going as fast as my wheels will go, im not happy, but your focus on consistency over speed is refreshing. thanks for all the great videos, and keep on skating on!

    Oh man this was great. I had to remind myself to inhale every now and then thanks o me being so engrossed. I would love to be able to do that, with a tiny bit more aggressive flair as that would be my preference of skating. But wow that looked like an absolute paradise. In regards to your jumping videos, I've come to the realization (or it's just my "style") that my heel pop in aggressive skates does not yield the air I so desire but it does help me traverse those small bumps you mentioned. But your toe push and part of your "how to drop in" have shown me my own way to practice traversing those larger patches and undesired patches of ground. Thanks Shop Task, this guy is representing you all out in sleepy little Stouffville Ontario.

    I hate being hurt and not being able to skate. It gets me a bit depressed sometimes. The weird thing is that sometimes you can improve your skating just by thinking about it or imagining yourself skating. I remember after 2 months off skates because of a broken ankle I put the blades and I could do a couple new tricks.

On the Mushroom Blading logo side of the wheel the durometer is stated as 85A and on the other side of the wheel, the durometer is stated as 86A. Dustin Werbeski pointed this out and he said the wheels are actually 86A.

  • @FlowSkate

    @FlowSkate

    6 жыл бұрын

    The Wizard frame makes this style of skating much easier. The big wheels make for effortless speed. The natural rocker increases manoeuvrability without sacrificing stability. And the combination of the Seba SX boot and Intuition liner is super comfortable and high performance. By far the best all round city skate.

    Amazing flow , I really like the transitions from Alex filming to the go pro. I guessed you picked the perfect day, the streets looked empty . One question though, what posture would be best when rolling fast? I'm aware of staying low but should I stay in scissors position or keep both feet closed up together? Skate safe.

  • @FlowSkate

    @FlowSkate

    6 жыл бұрын

    I prefer a very slight scissor. Generally, my right foot is about half a skate length in front of my left foot. This allows me to safely roll over bumps that I did not anticipate and still be in a good position to jump or make a quick turn.

    Calgary is an interesting city. Many people work downtown and there are a lot of interesting places to skates. However, there are very few people that live downtown so on weekends the downtown core empty.

    I'm curious: do you shoot your videos in a ghost town or do you shoot them at like 6am on a Sunday morning or in public holidays only? Shops are closed and I can hardly see any people or traffic in your videos. I'd like to see some videos where you would have to deal with crossing people's way and doing lots of "emergency" stops, would that be possible?
