The food waste is truly absurd and borderline barbaric. We keep hearing soup kitchens and foodbanks struggling, but it wouldn't be so if they got rid of much of the asinine legislation surrounding food donations.

I don't think it's regulations that make companies throw out the food, it's more a matter of liability, if they donate and someone gets sick they can be sued. This came to the attention of companies about 20 years ago when McDonald's was sued and had to pay a big judgement over a cup of coffee being spilled and a person got burned, who knew that hot coffee was going to be hot?, once companies seen juries award money for common sense not being used they quit donating.

@@erikadowdy2382 it's not the only reason but I do believe it's the biggest reason, other reasons are the companies are in the business of selling the products and loading up a vehicle and sending an employee to a food bank costs them money instead of making money, with labor costs being a large part of a company's profit margin they just may not be able to pay an employee an hour or two to take it to a food bank. Another problem is bakeries and restaurants have a closing time and often set a time for food banks to pick the food up *and it only takes a couple of times that the food bank is late or doesn't show up and the owner/manager says "enough of this, I've got stuff to do" edit * at closing time

The lawsuit wasn't someone whining that they got a little minor burn and then McDonald's putting a label for idiots, it was someone being legitimately harmed and McDonald's putting a label on that makes it so the next victim can't sue them

I currently work for Panera Bread and the fact is that if no one wants any leftover bread from Panera Bread they throw it away in garbage. I know it's sad and it's not fair for the food bank and other communities I used to dig at the dumpsters where I currently still work at get free bread for my pet chickens and my manager wouldn't let me dig in the dumpsters anymore to leave it in the trash and it's heartbroken. I still see bread from Panera Bread to this day. We have a policy that we can't stop customers to dig in our dumpsters and put their own personal trash in our dumpsters.

Filled Propane tanks in the dumpster ? talking about a real hazard

hard cheeses will be somewhat safer than soft cheeses, but "good cheese mold" is really difficult to differentiate from "bad" cheese mold. what you need to be concerned about is how long they weren't refrigerated. otherwise, keep on recycling :)

The food bank always gives us cheese. Not all is great .The squirrels and birds-strays love it.

Found this channel and it reignited my desire to try dumpster diving! Most of the dumpsters were busts and one set off a proximity alarm, but I did find a huge load of coke products in a Michael's dumpster of all places Even als found a convenient decorative crate in there to carry them in! I did also find some hard seltzers in another dumpster, but I'm not a drinker so I guess that will be someone else's find...

This guy and Mikey the Scavenger are great scrappers. I wonder if they are brothers? They look alike.

You should not be wearing flip-flops while you’re out doing this number two anonymously. You should call the company you dumpster company that you were in, tell them about those cylinders. Let them know what company you were at but like I said, do it anonymously tell them to tell their driver to check out the dumpster before he holds it away so they don’t explode inside the landfill. That’s something I would do.

You can freeze cheese and all you have to do is cut around the edges. You would be able to have free Cheese toasties for months with the bread and cheese you found my mate.

The thing I don’t get… if they can throw that much away, why the hell are we paying so much for food? Just make less, save some money, and pass that savings on to the customers. Plus, it cuts down on the food waste in general.

I believe for the 18 million dutchies (Holland, The Netherlands, Nederland), just the restaurants, companies and stores alone, waste around 14 billion USD annually by shoving edibles into the bin, never mind the common folk or other food points along the routes to people, like the raw ground material ingredients stuff. Most gets recycled or burned though, which is also kinda dumb, burning... I'm sure the pigs or land would be happier with the composting effort. So you can kinda calculate per person what they waste. Its not about lack of food for the last 100 years, its people not making an effort to clean house and care or make simple laws to enforce goodness and goodwill. Lazy greedy demons.

I've got a two car garage I rent from a friend. But a lot of the stuff gets donated or scrapped within a few days once my truckbed gets full. The eBay stuff is generally pretty small. I can fit ~100-150 items on two large shelves in the garage. And the big bulky stuff that I sell locally, if it's not moving within 2-3 months It's getting scrapped or put back in a dumpster.
