I don't have enough thumbs... Andy Fraser was an unheralded master of the electric bass. I was lucky enough to see this band in their prime, yet I can never get enough of these TV spots. Thank you for posting this.

Fraser putting on a clinic here. He serves the song and gives it a muscular rhythm, lays down a solid base for Kossoff to solo over, then unleashes the Jack Bruce- John Entwistle, type chops when it’s his turn to shine. And he’s like 18 here. Any aspiring bassist should see this video!

Patriotic Hooligan Those are excellent bands, and I enjoy Warren Haynes in any environment. But in a crowded field, listening 50 years later, a case can be made that Free set the bar for performing virtuoso , utterly unpretentious hard rock. This 1970 example is so authentic, so honest, that it seems “unplugged” or “unprocessed” in comparison to contemporary broadcast production standards. Catch their 1970 debut festival performance at the Isle of Wight. For a fleeting moment, 4 very young, extremely gifted musicians mind-melded into a whole greater than the sum of its parts.

Andy Fraser was 17/18 when this was shot, and already a fabulous, soulful bassist.
SO heartening yo see Andy receive the most comments here. He was truly gifted!!

The awesome power of this band is undeniable. Just 3 pieces and one of the greatest R & R singers. I can listen all day.
Damn..I don't care what anyone says, they were the greatest teenage band in the entire 65 year history of rock. No band will ever match them in the sheer talent and soulfulness they had for such young men.
These were my favourite Band. To see them live was a mindblowing experience. We saw them as often as possible in the UK back in the day and I was entranced with Paul Kossoffs playing, but all four of them were very special together.
Four brilliant musicians. One of my all-time favourites.

Groove and feel in epic proportions the Free way 👍🏼
Koss absolutely ringing the neck of that burst!
First band i ever saw live in 1971 at the rink in Sunderland at 15 years of age-never forgotten- A glorious period for British bands!!
Born in the 90s but my heart will always belong to the 60s/70s music era. Sad i wasnt born earlier to witness such greatness live.. Long Live Free ❤
Most of Free's songs were really slow, something I didnt realise when i was listening to them in the 70s. They gave the music time to breathe. Paul Kossoff didn't need to play 500 notes a minute to impress the listener. He just played the right notes at the right time. Absolutely brilliant. He died far too young.

This is a burning performance. Nice mix that highlights Andy, who is an underrated groove machine
Such a magnificent band.
Unbelievable ! All great. Bass is incredible !
Heavy but delicate in a way that has been lost. Absolutely brilliant.
The older we get - the better old music becomes !!!!!

Nothing Today is This Good !! Free , Simply Brilliant !!
ハロー😊やはり70年代のロックは素晴らしく、素敵です。若い時、Freeの楽曲とポールの歌唱力が、素晴らしく💕でした‼️JAPANより🐾🐾🐾🐕💃🌋
Koss. The young man's soul poured out through his fingers. Free was the perfect band. All members the best at their specialty. Young, but confident enough to let their music have space and breathe. We'll never see a band this good again.
Seriously insane that Paul Kossoff could just stand literally RIGHT IN FRONT of those cranked Marshall amps and an Orange as well. Especially considering the fact that I can't even be IN THE ROOM with my AC30 without thinking I'm gonna go deaf! Dude was amazing!

Depends on the size of the place, number of people in it. I've played in front of Marshall amp/ cabinet and hardly heard it.

that's a big venue though, and those Marshalls would put out a lot of gain if dimed, these don't sound cranked at all
Oh My Word! Unbe*******lievable! I can’t remember how many times I’ve listened to that track and it is still the best live anything that I’ve heard. And then you have the live version of Be My Friend which is a great ballad…this band could do everything…Guardians of the Universe.
What a song!;What a performance!!!
They were so right for that moment in time. The fact that they were never “superstars” made them the dark horse, the underdog, and even more appealing to those of us that wanted a band that was “ours”, and not for everyone. Amazing bass, guitar, and Paul Rodgers-the best rock vocalist .

Haha, I agree. So many spot on comments here. It’s clear that Free fanciers are a special musical breed ... much like this band were.

Man I could not imagine being able to see this live performance. Incredible.
Such a great band
What a bsnd - I've love this bsnd since the early 70's. Four great virtuoso's who grew together but couldn't stay together. Andy Frazier so soulful and funky. Enjoy!!
Most underated rock band of all time
This song is so amazing..I like it more than their biggest hit: Allright Now. Just outstanding in every way imaginable..from every band member!! RIP Paul & Andy...
This is first time I have seen the face of the Bassist playing ! What prodigy he was ! Andy was less than 18 that time I think..

Rock and roll at its rawst with the birth of a vocal Legend who Still rocks today like he did back then!!!!!🎸👍👍👍👏👏😚
We’ll never hear the likes of this again… Andy Fraser right in the pocket, Koss utterly superb no FX pedals just straight into the amp… and Simon and Paul .. ha no words just beautiful
Never get tired of listening to this. It only gets stronger . What a band and unbelievable chemistry between them. Probably the most memorable performance ever in Rock history
Kossoff and Fraser at their best!! One of many fantastic British bands of this or any era.
