We cannot imagine a world without music. Music gives us a peace that would otherwise be unobtainable. It also becomes a perfect path to seclusion when escaping the trials of life. So how does music move our minds?
Daniel Barenboim, considered one of the greatest living conductors, gives a lecture on classical music. Let's listen to the story of his life-long relationship with music, from his early years as a seven-year-old prodigy pianist to his place as a world-class conductor today.
In this lecture, Barenboim explains the unique value of music. First, he tells us about the true greatness of classical music, such as Beethoven's work, which transcends time and breathes life into every moment of a performance. Also, from what might be an unfamiliar perspective, he talks about a score's “silence,” which conveys as much resonance and impact as sound can.
Considered one of the most significant authorities on romantic music, Barenboim has thought deeply throughout his life about what he could do with his gift. Despite many criticisms, especially as a Jewish person, he founded an orchestra that gathers musicians from conflict zones in the Middle East. Indeed, he believes music can deliver messages of harmony and coexistence, breaking through the walls built by ideologies. Maestro Barenboim is an incredible inspiration ! to even completely non trained piano people like me. Watched a master class with some really great young pianists about 11 years ago and then started watching many many hours of both piano and orchestral works. Now in a few years when my career is done..( totally different field, physics and software architecture) I want to spend at least 4 years learning to play and appreciate piano music. Started with a baby grand piano about 6 months ago and am playing everyday. One day I hope to play at least the first line of the HammerClavier sonata.. :-) It may not be possible but will definitely try... Thank you!..

@@michaelgoutman681 Thank you Michael I definitely will reach out.. I have joined Tonebase ( am enjoying the begining lessons there .. ) and also 6 other channels for the preliminaries ( rhythm) scales ( major -15- and minor) and have started looking at some sections of K414 Andante Mozart.. playing just the first 4 lines for the past 3 weeks.. I have a few years to catch upto maybe grade 5-6 (RCM) but it is a hobby - daily 1 hour or so in the evenings after work.. Got a baby grand Essex 6 months ago.. and yes I am well past 55 yrs .. :-) . Thoroughly enjoying the playing along with lots of listening to the great masters...

@@peterwilliam8135 That is great to hear! You might want to work on some of Bach's 2 part inventions, they are fairly easy technically but great for development. C major, D minor are good to start with..

Once you learned the text of these inventions, try the following: play 1 voice and sing the other, then alternate
