Thank fucking God. I live one town over from the con. And I am glad that it's going to be cancelled. Which the recent events. I am glad it's done for. I am mainly just going to make a remark. If I went I would have gone undercover. Mainly because I want to see if any racism was going on. Thankfully I've not seen any racism but surprisingly I am just going to keep watching for 2024 and if 2024 doesn't happen. Then I am going to be happy.

It's an appropriately karmic fate that deprives them of the ability to play the victim. I'm reminded of a furry who draws angry little comics that depict various specific popufurs in the fandom cruelly cancelling people and ruling the fandom with an iron fist. The comics usually get only five reactions at most, and I would bet money that none of the popufurs depicted even know who the guy is, which makes his perennial fuming seem just plain pathetic. As the old saying goes, don't feed the trolls.

I don't think you should take it super literally when they say it's fake art because they're just saying it wasn't made by a real artist but a program feeding on stolen images. It can be argued the art is both stolen, and fake. Inauthentic in either case

@@556deltawolf It is fake because the AI basically steals other peoples art and mixes it up a bit. Its like Tracing... Also "Art" means creativity, zero creativity or self expression is involved when the picture is made by a glorified algorythm. Its not even "real" AI to begin with. Theres no thought process involved at all on the part of the algorythm. So by definition its not real art, its a copy of someones homework with some sentences changed so the teacher hopefully doesnt notice.

Only 50-55 people were there, mostly filled by staff. This is freaking hilarious and sad.

I went to my very first furry convention this year (Anthrocon '23) and it was one of the best weekends of my life. Since then I spent less time doomscrolling and more time finding people I like to talk to. Maybe I'm just basing this off of my experience, but good company and a good convention can remind you how little internet bullshit matters. FFA themed a convention off of mocking people they hate online, which I think undermines the best part of a convention, or even a meetup; you go there to hang out with people offline, not to hate on people online. If I wanted to hate on people online, I would just stay at home and do that instead of buying a ticket to Oklahoma.

I'm late on this, but such a thing is impossible for them. A part of their identity is that they hate specific types of people (And are also vile). The only next logical step is to find a place to discuss hate in person because trying to be someone who loves things isn't a goal for them. You can see this with the con's leadership and how they treat each other and other people.

I think that Jasonafex and Kabier create things, not to make themselves and others happy, but because they know what they do will hurt someone. I'm sorry, but I'm drawing the line and declaring it: I do not think any of what they have done has ever been in good faith. I think they do what they do purely because they know someone will be offended or upset, or angry, or basically react in a way where they can play the Steven He clip of "Emotional damage!" in response. Because I am 90%+ sure that is how Jasonafex and Kabier would respond to someone expressing disdain or criticism. Those two are the humanitarian equivalent of a Justin Roiland Rick and Morty/Solar Opposites-style "Shut up, shut the fuck up, fuck off, nobody fucking likes you, you fucking piece of shit, just fuck off, nobody fucking likes you, you're fucking worthless, fuck off" type of a dunking on people tirade. Except the hypothetical example I gave, and all the times in those shows that it happens, were deliberately written to be jokes.

As a furry artist whose done a whole KZread video about the implications of AI Art in the furry community, even with my slightly differing views on the topic from the norm, their usage is confusing given they should have had the resources to draw up stuff themselves. Kabs is bad but they seem to draw fast. Like they could have touched up the AI renders by hand if they actually cared... Also The con is quite the joke but honestly it'd have done better if the peacewolf drama hadn't split the cult.

I am actually shocked they had another one. Cons are expensive to run. Their first year featured a who's who list of people who had squicked the rest of the fandom right out and barely scraped together a few hundred attendees. Considering the drama these people create and the inevitable staff changes and PR hits that come of it, I really didn't think it'd last beyond the first year. I guess there were some people there just rubbernecking back then because this year's just looks sad. 55 Attendees???

Seems kinda sus that he'd still have enough to out-of-pocket a whole hotel con. Usually the way it works is that a small local meet grows and grows until it becomes a convention. This might well be the first one to do the opposite and go from a convention to an annual meet. The numbers they drew this year were about the same as the biggest local meet we had where I live.

I now have to live with the fact these three (Jason, Kabs, and Peace) enjoy Porter Robinson and that kills me inside. Context: One of the songs played during clips of the "rave" was Language by Porter Robinson. I like that song. And now I'm gonna have this moment stuck as an eternal memory anytime I listen to that song.

The "no politics" rule was sort of both a lie and the truth. From what I've gathered, it was the latter because they had no known political litmus test for people and the con wasn't overtly and explicitly political. However, it's also a lie because almost everyone who went there were right-wing and it was in effect *their* con and felt safe with that knowledge, and the "anti-cancel culture" messaging has right-wing and anti-liberal/woke connotations (though a few progressives like me abhor Twitter/cancel culture run amok). @HOMiCYDE There are some liberals like me who have become sick and tired of the needless political infighting and virtue signaling, and cons using Twitter as a barometer to base their actions on. Not all of us are anti-trans, anti-liberal Trumpers. But, you're right, that sort of messaging has rightist connotations, which is why I don't find it very feasible for a no-politics, anti-cancel culture con to openly and explicitly be so. It would just immediately be seen as another right-wing con.

A con made from spite and by spiteful angry sore losers who were turned away from better cons. No wonder they went with minimum-effort AI generated images for their advertisement, hired no DJ to actually play a setlist, and all of their "interactive" panels were banal guessing games about sugary drinks and poorly pantomimed performances set to pre-recorded rants. With how poor the turnout was, I'd be incredibly shocked if it wasn't operated at a loss to venue hiring costs. In fact, let's crunch some numbers as the Glenpool Conference Center lists their venue costs: Free Fur All is (or was, whichever is funnier) a 3-day event that went for 13 hours for 2 days, and then 10 hours for the last day - but only hired the rooms within the allotted days and time limits allowed by the facility. The venue rooms they hired include Exhibit Halls A and B (Game and Main Event rooms like the "DJ"), the Foyer (used for the surprisingly unpeed ball pit and literal animal abuse by an unlicensed animal sanctuary), the facility's left wing including the Board Room (Fursuit Lounge) and South 2B & 2A (combined for Dealers Den), and the facility's right wing including North 3A & 3B (combined for Panel Room 1) and North 4A & 4B (split into two rooms via a divider for Con Ops and Panel Room 2). Pricing for the aforementioned rooms in order, for Friday and Saturday prices, and the final day on Sunday: $1,300 (Hall A, Friday and Saturday) Max Rate $1,800 (Hall B, Friday and Saturday) Max Rate $1,000 (Hall A, Sunday) Max Rate $1,300 (Hall B, Sunday) Max Rate $1,000 (Foyer, Friday and Saturday) Max Rate $0,700 (Foyer, Sunday) Max Rate ASSUMED (Dealers Den, Panel Room 1, Panel Room 2 and Con Ops): $0,600 3x (Double Meeting Room, Friday and Saturday) $0,300 3x (Double Meeting Room, Sunday) 4 hours ASSUMED (Fursuit Lounge): $0,500 (Meeting Rooms, Friday and Saturday) $0,200 (Meeting Room, Sunday) 4 hours TOTAL: $10,500 (before an NFP discount of 50%) NFP aprox rate total: $5,250 Now, they still (STILL!) have their July schedule listed on their site, along with other info such as the $450 "Maverick" registration tier allegedly being "Sold Out!" to a limit of 15, but who knows if any of them *weren't* bought by the staff/friends/etc who had to pay for the venue fees anyway to run their little fash party. This also doesn't take into account transport/gas costs, table fees, and additional expenses (printing for advertisement flyers, banners, office supplies, catering - even if it's literally just the con staff paying for their own food, that's money that was spent running the con - unplanned purchases due to forgotten equipment, etc). At best, they made a few hundred dollars in profit/revenue (which went straight back into the NFP account and not to any of the staff) and definitely not a thousand or more as the couple of dozen who paid for registration just barely covered the venue costs. At worse, they're barely operating above insolvency because the staff keep pumping the NFP account with their own funds, bleeding themselves to spite the naysayers because it's harder for them to accept defeat than it is to go broke. If none of this sounds difficult or pricey to you, then only managing an expo/con can give you the experience to know how truly F'd in the A the FFA con truly is.

Watching clips of this con is giving me secondhand embarrassment. This is just sad.
