Fantastic video of a beautiful 73 Olds 98! That LS model actually has a clock mounted behind the front seat for the rear passengers, even Cadillac didn't offer this! I just saved a 72 Buick Electra coupe that was about to be junked. She's all cleaned up and looking and running great. Can't believe fools let these beautiful machines go to waste. The scene with your little ones running around the car having fun is wonderful. My kids do the same thing, they always want to ride in the Buick, not the boring new SUV. Although the roof is rusted out, hope you somehow manage to save that Olds, even if it's only to clean it up more and drive the kids around, they will always remember those moments.

I'd love to see a full restoration on this beast. These cars were really made to be luxurious.

Those cars are not worth investing a full restoration on and they don't make parts for those cars but it's worth fixing what he has and driving it till the wheels fall off it that's about it.

Of all the cars I've ever seen you and your Dad drag in and get running, that one you should keep. Without a doubt it is the best candidate you've had for a sure enough restoration. It could be a show quality car easy enough. I had a 72 Delta 88 Royale. It was a little under the value of a 98. It was preferred over Cadilac by many GM owners and drivers. It will get 20 on the road with 35# of air in the tires and 16 in traffic. If I was a younger man I'd fight you for that car. That's how much I loved mine. I would whip somebody over that car. You drive it a while and you will fall fall in love with it. Proud for you man. It's a really cool car and you've got a cool family too! Thanks for sharing this time with us.

It was Preferred by those who wanted a Cadillac but couldn't have one. I had a 98 Regency and a Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. They were very Different cars. Not Siblings, more like 2nd or 3rd Cousins. Once you started poking around the two cars, the Caddy was a Much better built Car, with more attention on things like the Seats, Seat Frames, Bracing of the Frame, Damper weights on the Frame, More advanced Climate Control, though sometimes less Flexibility in the Operation, but it did work very well in fully Automatic mode, while the 98 had Auto Temp control, everything else was Manual. Under the the hood there were several Structural Braces on the Caddy. Anyone who says their 98 Regency/Buick Electra is the the same as a Caddy, is dreaming

That's what we Brits imagine when we think American car! It was weird seeing near a Smart Car, how times change, You're making golden memories for your kids riding in that old beast with you and Grandpa doing some crazy off-roading!

My folks had one when I was teenager, we were driving to Laredo on a 50 mile straight stretch of highway. My father looked down and we were doing 90 not 55 mph. They are so smooth it was hard to tell how fast it was going!

you know a guy was thinking that this here rust could be fixed and saved.....nope but i'm goin to do the right thing and just pretend i didnt see that. also i think that im 74.302 percent sure that the sparkalators and the lightnin hoses are just right for this guy here but i may have to move the thingamajig and tap on the doohickey to get er just fine and smooth sailin.

My brother had a '76 C10. I loved working on that thing. I am 6ft, 4in tall, and I could sit in the engine compartment and work on it. Everything was easy on it. Just make sure you don't bend the power steering pulley. I learned that one the hard way, and spent a month looking for one. Needless to say, I learned the value of using pullers when they are needed, lol.

I used to ride to church in the 80's in one of those. It was navy blue & was in great shape. 455 rocket. I wish i would've got it when my grandpa upgraded.

When I was a kid I remember my Dad driving his 98, fully-loaded car off the showroom floor. It was white with red interior. It drove like a dream. Our family took it on vacation all over the US. The massive trunk handled our luggage and large cooler easily. On the Interstate, the suspension was stupendous as it floated at 80mph without the feel of bumps or cracks in the road. I have honestly never been in a vehicle as comfortable since, and that includes Mercedes and Lexus in the mix.

@@DaveyJonesLockerwithJazzy As originally implemented, the first digit signifies the body size while the second represents the number of cylinders. Body sizes were 6, 7, 8, and 9, and straight six- and straight eight-cylinder engines were offered. Thus, Oldsmobiles were named "66" through "98"

Love this ‘73 Olds 98. My mom had this year Delta 88 but always loved the 98, Olds version of a Cadillac Sedan de Ville. Really beautiful in their day.

My grandma had a blue Delta 88 this video brought back some fond memories from my childhood cruising with my grams.

My dad had this same exact car and he used to pull a 29' Airstream with it. Took it to mexico on a rally, had a great time. I used to drive it to Florida with the trailer and it had more guts than any other car that I've driven since. Olds made a real beast with the big 455 cu in engine. I can't get over seeing this car, exact color inside and out. Dad let me drive it home from the dealership in Ferndale, Mi, it was a wonderful floater going down the road. Thanks for showing this. These old land yachts are the best! I had an old Ford Country Squire and it was the most comfortable car I've even been in.

These are the big Americans I remember when I was young, maybe gasguzzlers but boy they where pretty ! Big in compare with our Europian cars and also full options whe never heard off, and I still loved them! Unfortenly they disappears during the first oilcrisis and never came back.... And that sound !!!!.Loved this video en greets from the Netherlands!

They weren't too bad on gas until 1972... took 4 - 20 years for good MPG to come back again depending on the make and model...

@@BuzzLOLOL These days you could even fit it with a electronic ignition and a Holley EFI kit and it would get a whole lot better mileage. Better cold start as well.

@@jfv65 - EFI doesn't improve MPG much, and too expensive, those early 1970's engines needed internal improvements... although they always started fine in winter...

The only land yachts you can get now are Dodge Challengers and Chargers. The 3.6L V6s get a fair amount of gas mileage if you are not romping on the gas but for 300HP in a boat it's not bad. But the 700+hp Hellcats are really fun. With these boats it's about the smiles per gallon! But it's also amazing when you can get a classic land yacht for free!

I'm driving my 2000's Ford Crown Vic until another streamlined full size car comes along... it's surprisingly good on gas approaching 20 MPG city and 30 MPG hiway... 1993 - 1996 Impala I would also consider and prolly more reliable than this Ford, except for the Opti-Spark distributor...

That is a beautiful vehicle and your children are just adorable God bless them, you and your family. My father purchased one brand new in 1973 for $10,000 from Apex Oldsmobile in Brooklyn NY. I was a great comfortable riding vehicle. That year there was 2 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight models. The LS and the Regency. The LS was the higher end and had more options. That's the one that we owned. It was burgundy with beige interior. I noticed that your interior lights were on while you were driving. To turn them off turn the headlight switch to the left and to turn the headlights on, pull the switch out. We didn't have a 8 track player, that was an option and Dad wasn't much into music just AM/FM radio. Dad owned it forb10 years without fail, he always keep his vehicles for 10 years. He gave it to me in 1983. While driving to work one night it over heated due to a radiator hose leak that I was aware of but neglected to replace due to work constraints and I wound up blowing the engine on the way to work. All of the best with yours. Great find and thanks for all of the GREAT memories. Peace.

That would be a cool resto, I had one like this as a teen, what a cruiser. I actually thought these were quite handsome compared to many other '73 offerings.

My late Mom had a 72 or 73 4 door 98 Regency with the 455 motor, it was a super cruiser. And being that it was about 45 years ago, it was in really nice shape to boot. Always liked it.

And just saying-fix the rust on it- I know you can do it after watching you build that Porsche. That Olds will outrun and out live anything else you find. Your kids are stoked on it-keep it around,clean it up nice and take them out for hamburgers or ice cream in it.

You've got yourself an Olds 98 LS Luxury Sedan. Nicest ones they made. My brother had the same car back in the 80s, what a luxury tank! Great memories of the drive in (hehe) and crazy trip to a ski lodge chasing down a car load of twerps in a Monte Carlo. They went screaming past us thinking we were old people (and tossing fast food garbage and cans at us) not understanding that we were a car load of Five drunk delinquents ready for a confrontation. My brother floored the Olds and we chased down the pukes and buzzed their car hanging out of the windows swinging and shaking ski poles at them while unloading all of the garbage from our car into their windshild.. Those were the days. Now days somebody would have pulled a gun...hahaha...

You would be surprised how much power they put in those old boats back then. A friend of mine gave me a 79 Volare with a 225 in it. When he gave it to me in '03, I got it up to 125mph on the interstate, despite it weighing over 5000lbs and having multiple mechanical issues. It had 165K miles on it, so I decided to tear into it to do a tuneup and get it running better. When I pulled the plugs, it still had the factory plugs in it. There was nearly a quarter of an inch of ash buildup on all six plugs, and it still did 125mph. The back end of the plugs were completely covered. You could not see the electrodes at all. I took the plugs to several friends of mine that have shops, and none of them said that they had ever seen anything like that before. They said there was no way that a car could run on those plugs, but it did. When I got deeper into it, I found out that it also had a burnt valve. They don't make them like they used to, lol.

'73 Olds Ninety-eight, 455 engine, 400 turbo transmission, and a 2 speed differential. I'm 5' 11" tall. The trunk has enough room that I can lay my head at the back seat, stretch out, and only the soles of my boots will keep me from laying comfortably straight in it. My parents had one that was moss green, when I was in my late teens. It needed paint, but it rode like a cloud on your sofa, and with the gearing, for what it was, on the interstate, it would go like a rocket ship on rails.

On mid 70's Olds 455's watch out for rockers. There was a cool spot that would sludge up. Its at first just rockers but will go to the push rods, lifters & cam in time. Otherwise a fantastic engine powerful, quiet & long lived. LFOD !

I totally agree. Every 15 year old in their dad's garage builds a muscle car. I am so sick of seeing people restore those cars while sending cars like this to the scrap heap. People tend to focus on initial production runs, but I guarantee there are more muscle cars on the road today than there are of these cars. I hate some one tearing down a perfectly good car like this to stick the drivetrain in some truck or muscle car. It pisses me off every time i see it.

I am new to this channel and i must say i love the enthusiasm in your voice and can truly see you love cars ! Keep pushing and enjoy the time with your Dad, in my opinion that is the best part of watching. Cheer's and have a blast !

1973 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight LS. Had 2 of those. They are awesome cruisers. The 455 is a great motor too. The clock in the back seat is made by Tiffany. I am a Moderator for the 1970's Great American land yacht page on Facebook. I've owned hundreds of these classic 70's land barges.

You're not really gonna scrap her, are you? If I lived closer, I'd try to buy it as is, because I miss the land yachts. You're doing pretty good work bringing these cars back to life, but the memories you're making with your children is even better. That's awesome!

My dad had rhe exact same Olds when I was a kid. Memories!

Grew up riding and working on Oldsmobiles. I would suggest pulling water pump and putting timing chain in it before it goes it is their week spot will run many trouble free miles after this!

My parents bought one of these brand new in '74 and thought they'd "arrived". It was called the Oldsmobile Ninety Eight "Regency Sedan". When I learned to drive about 1980 I took it out and had fun laying down black stripes with that 455. Mom wasn't a great driver and used to scrape the side of the garage with it about twice a month. I'd nail the trim back on the garage and polish the white marks off the side of the car. I was getting pretty good with a wrench with my own cars so mom started asking me to fix this and that and I grew to despise the damn thing. It was so big I had to climb inside it to work on the stupid thing. Fuel mileage was terrible but it did have that big back seat which was handy on dates. It was dark green and we started calling it Sherman because it looked like a tank from WWII. One day the water pump seized and the engine blew a head gasket. With gas running over a $1.00 a gallon mom kicked it to the curb and bought a Buick. I can't say I shed a tear when Sherman left.

Im a 6ft 2 1/2 man and I owned and drove a 70 Buick Electra Limited 4 door for years so I identify with the love for these boats. My only concern watching this is letting the kids ride inside with the black mold not neutralized and removed inside the car.

I've never had any issues with the gm side mount battery terminals lol. I think the only people who complain about them just over tighten em to the point that the threads strip out.

Agree Jesse Paul :) also lots people had side posts never clean or lube up from corrosion all GM vechile have only had replaced one battery terminal ever on - ground side what happened my battery had battery post crack in case leak acid on to me because Alternator over recharge on me to ! Then week later my car got hit by 3 prong fork lightning when drive home from work at 12:00 May 25 2013 it shut down my car took lots figure out get started and 10 mins away from home! But my car is 2002 Chevrolet Impala E-X LTZ LS 4 door I rebuilt totally myself from parts car and lightning blew up Mass Air Flow Ring , plus H -O2 sensors also - ground connector on the Right Wheel Hump off plus Alternator and Starter changed since not other computer parts to ! But got all fix all run excellent!

I loved my old Classic Olds 98 Brougham. My friends called it the "Mafia Mobile" and loved to ride in it. We took it everywhere we went even though we had much newer cars to travel in.

I love the sound of those old machines.... Makes me appreciate my Mustang II even more.

My grandpa loved those cars I remember when I was a little boy went with him and grandma down the blue ridge went for a pick nic and lay in the back sleeping on the way back. Felt like laying on a cloud. Lol

Typical GM started right up sounds great!! very very good find for that 1972-98 olds very good find motor sounds great. Once you replace the donut you're good to go, I had a 1973 Oldsmobile tornado that had the 455 it had dual exhaust I had to replace both donuts that was a common problem but once they're fixed they run quiet. That's what I love about those old classics there's nothing like those cars you can't do that with the new cars today with all the computers, nothing like that smell of gas and carburetor and all of that good stuff good luck, good find again take care.👍🏼

This car reminds me of my 1972 Pontiac Grandville . It was a real Luxury liner and provided a wonderful ride down the road ! Unfortunately , having. a 455 cubic in. engine it was not practical to drive even when fuel prices were cheaper back in 1980. I miss all of those land yachts today .

Wait till you get it on down the highway. Deceptively fast. Dad had a '71 Delta 88 with that 455. When he was stationed in Fresno, mom (and on occasion, I) would make the run from home to Castle AFB- 100 or so miles- in under 1 hour. The eerie thing was, we wouldn't know it until mom finally glanced down at the speedo, and find the needle trying to wrap itself around the stop peg. Those big B-body Olds' from that era are that smooth.

Yes indeed the 455 is a torque monster. There's a reason why they chose to use the 455 Oldsmobile engine when they were using that GMC I call it the stripes mobile RV.
