Alright, so. Genres. (All of these are approximate, mind you: my musical knowledge is far from perfect, and as every genre of electronic - _especially_ hardcore - shares some degree of common lineage, there's bound to be overlap.) The intro is a bit less trope-y than the other genreswitches, but it still falls under hardcore (specifically J-core, with its emphasis on melody) as sort of a catch-all. 0:55 - 1:20 , at 234bpm, switches between Frenchcore (gritty and technical) and Gabber (you know that kick when you hear it) every 4 measures. 1:05 introduces a standard Drum N' Bass kick-snare rhythm, which is then added to the genre rotation. 1:23 drops the rotation and goes into the hybrid genre Artcore (hardcore rhythm with a mixture of synth and piano instrumentation). 1:43 - 2:00 switches over to Complextro (loosely in the 120bpm range, sharp and glitchy effects), "dubbing" the BPM to 117; this goes for 2 measures until switching back to double-time for a slightly different strain of Artcore, using D&B breaks in place of the Hardcore bassdrum rhythm from before. 2:08 - 2:52 has another rotation of genres! We're back down to 117bpm for all of these. Starting with post-dubstep (faster than "true" dubstep, still with its 1-2 kick-snare rhythm and famously noisy non-tonal effects), followed by Trapstep (similar to before, but with more hip-hop influence in percussion), and then Glitch-Hop (time's done a number on this genre, in all honesty, and it's becoming more and more of a catch-all, but the jist is that it's dubstep production with an emphasis on swing), and finally, a bit of an odd one out, Death Metal (rapid-fire guitar chords, "screaming" vocals, et cetera. It could also be Power Metal, with how melodic it is, but... yeah, Metal is not my area of expertise.) 2 measures for all 4, the rotation loops, and we end on 8 measures of Metal before falling into the Genre Abyss™ again. 3:18 - 4:38 is fun. We get to go through a bunch of genres, _continually increasing BPM in increments of 5 every switch,_ 4 measures for each. (If - _when_ - this gets charted in a rhythm game, I wish whoever plays it the best of luck avoiding a "Great" judgement in this bit.) We start at 125bpm Complextro (yes, it's a little bit of a catch-all, shut up), continuing into "Big Room" EDM at 130bpm (with bassy, tonal kicks and chord stabs; as made famous by Sound Souler's "avenue" series!... and, y'know, the rest of the popular EDM scene, but we don't talk about that), followed by 135bpm Bass House (a la DJ Noriken, atonal and "dirty" basslines over a typical 4-on-floor rhythm), onto 140bpm Tribal (trap-style beats with vocal riffs and exotic percussion), to 145bpm Techdance (e.g. S-don and Nitro, a slightly lighter variant of Schranz's forceful and distorted 4/4 kicks), into 150bpm Psytrance (with clean kicks, psychedelic sound effects and a punctuating, rhythmic bassline), then to 155bpm Hardstyle (e.g. RiraN, slightly lower tempo than Gabber, still maintaining its gargantuan tonal kicks and chaotic, scratchy high-end). There's a 4-bar windup before going halftime again, now at an 80bpm Trap/Drill (bleak, electronic drum rhythms and harsh effects moving in slow-motion), moving to 82.5bpm (remember, halftime!) "classic" Dubstep (you know, the one where the "dub" in the name actually means something!). We then go WAY up to doubletime for 170bpm Neurofunk (e.g. Noisia, D&B's darker and droning cousin), and finally over to... 175bpm Big Room. (you already went. stop hogging, dammit. the bpm going up could possibly reclassify it as techno, but still.) From then on, we revert back to the original 234bpm - where it stays - and we revert into full-force Hardcore/J-Core once again, blending into other genres freely. There's a brief interlude of Thrash Metal trading off with Chiptune at 5:40 - 5:50 , slight usage of Future Bass elements at 6:00 , some D&B breaks and Gabber kicks, and an Extratone breakdown at 6:40 . In short, holy shit.

the genre switches work because they flow well into one another. look at the first drop. it, and almost the rest of the song, has a "call and response" pattern. the first genre is the call, and the second genre is the response, which can create a nice resolution. there's also the piano melody playing through large chunks of the song, helping make the genre switches more cohesive. in the third drop where the bpm increases with every genre switch, camellia cycles through a bunch of genres. initially they have some in common, and then there are less and less similarities. it therefore feels more jarring, which was likely intentional i this part. the transition from psy-trance to hardstyle? rawstyle? idk. anyway, the transition between those two genres is held together by the sound effects carrying over from genre to genre. those high-pitch screeches, i mean, which become more prominent in... the genre AFTER the psy-trance. and then one of the genres get repeated at the end of that drop, which ties it all together. the moral of the story is: analyse your favourite songs. try and work out how any why they work. as a composer, this is an especially amazing way to learn. you can learn new chord progressions to permanently borrow. how you can effectively use accidentals to create or relieve tension. and how you can effectively and smoothly, yet unsubtly switch genres, like in this case copied from my reply to a comment. i decided to make it more accessible

@Through Anything I'll list here why it's bad: - osu make people think that rhythm games should be free - they basically leeching of other rhythm games by stealing other rhythm games original song to osu - the fanbase, the worst, very competitive and just can't play for fun like stop caring for those fucking pp for a second. - it feels like a pay-to-win because using a tablet feels easier to play and master than mouse which needs more time to master using. - the beatmaps doesn't feel fun enough, - most beatmaps not mouse friendly on higher levels

@@Amer-vd4kd @tripizza i agree this community is very unlikeable at times but those arent valid reasons. 1. I have never heard any of them saying that 2. They're not exactly 'rhythm game songs'. Most rhythm games licensed the songs in their game from independent artist so that they can be used. Which is why you will see, say FREEDOM DIVE in multiple rhythm games. Surprising you didnt say anime songs which are much more widespread and played in osu!. 4. I'm sorry if you met such people in the multi lobby. 5. In the end, its just a playstyle which you have a choice to use and in no way encouraging you to buy one. osu! wasnt meant to play on a tablet at first but it was eventually popularised by cookiezi. Sure tablet speeds the learning curve but mouse is able to compete competitively and in no way badly handicapped. Once you practice to a certain point the time to master either one is about the same. 6. Find or make fun one then, which there are many if you know where to find. 7. You probably playing maps beyond your skill level, take it slow. FGSky currently has the highest pp record done with a mouse on a bad setup.

  • @Amer-vd4kd

@@alastair5146 FREEDOM DiVE is bms song which mean it is free to use in community rhythm games and what I meant is like songs that being made for that particular rhythm game which being commissioned by the developers to artists. Like Ether Strike by Akira Complex, that is not licensed in osu! it is not allowed to be in osu! It is from Arcaea. Rhythm games never licensed their songs for osu! unless it's a collab with osu which never happen. The songs aren't taken down because rhythm game companies didn't take action. Probably for good reputation because people will be salty about it. Like kors k - smooooch , that got taken down by KONAMI because people aren't allowed to do that.
