I did not have to do clear ip ospf process on all routers to make R2 as DR. Just did it on R2 and it updated the configs :D

Hello, Which is preferred for manually configuring the DR and BDR ? (1) setting the priority high or (2) using loop back address to make DR and BDR. Thank you

Hi, Loopback is most preferred because loop back never go down. Thanks.

Sir, I'm a little bit confused. Before you set ospf on the interface, you didn't enter the command # router ospf 1.

Hi Instructor, I want to clarify the communications between the routers. Let us say R3 is DR and R4 is BDR If R1 has an issue with a network 1.1.1.1, then R1 Broadcasts to R3 and R4. Will R3 broadcast out the updated database or network issue of R1 to R2 only or to all the routers? Thanks, P.S. It is helpful you posted the config. It is so clear.

Hi, See as we know in OSPF we have two Multicast address that is 224.0.0.5 (This is for DR other )and 224.0.0.6 (This is for DR and BDR). If any issuse in R1 then he will Multi cast to 224.0.0.6 so DR and BDR get that infomation not other as other have multicast address 224.0.0.5 . And Then DR is going to send information with Multicast address 224.0.0.5 so all other router will get that information etc.. Did you get now? Please find the below configuration as per your request Day 41: Configuration: en config t hostname R1 int f0/0 ip add 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 no sh int fa0/0 ip ospf 1 area 0 ----------------------------- en config t hostname R2 int f0/0 ip add 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0 no sh int fa0/0 ip ospf 1 area 0 ------------------- en config t hostname R3 int f0/0 ip add 192.168.1.3 255.255.255.0 no sh int fa0/0 ip ospf 1 area 0 ------------ en config t hostname R4 int f0/0 ip add 192.168.1.4 255.255.255.0 no sh int fa0/0 ip ospf 1 area 0 Thanks.
