Free Camping Victoria / Firth Park Campground / Campfire Pork Spit / The Pit Kit / On Track Meals

In this episode, I travel solo in our converted Ford transit campervan, to Firth Park Campground in the Wombat State Forest Victoria, Australia. I show you around the free campsite, cook a pork spit on my Kit Pit firepit, and road test On Track Meals. I’ll also whip up a very quick and easy breakfast using McCain's hot pockets.
Also, I run into one of our viewers Shannon, who is traveling with his dog Kelly. Shannon had recently made some upgrades to his Mitsubishi Pajero 4WD, which I show you; including adding Bushwakka adventure gear awning , a water tank and a pull-out kitchen bench.
Firth Park is located on the northern slopes of the Great Dividing Range in the Wombat State Forest, about 80km northwest of Melbourne. The campground has basic toilet facilities, picnic tables, and fireplaces, and an interesting walk to Andersons Mill, the site of a former sawmill. The campground is close to several sawmills established in the late 1800s, taking advantage of the eucalypt forest that surrounded the area. Today, visitors exploring the area are greeted by a lush, forested area that attracts campers, picnickers, 4WD enthusiasts, and horse riders.
As mentioned, I took our Pit Kit firepit with me on this camping adventure. The Pit Kit is an Australian, Melbourne-based family-run business that offers Australian-made off-the-shelf and custom-designed fire pits from Australian steel. Their firepits are perfect for lovers of the outdoors, they can showcase a company logo in a unique way, or a perfect gift idea to mark a special occasion. The Pit Kits product range and accessories can be viewed online. The kits are manufactured in, Victoria and profile cut from Australian BlueScope 5mm laser plate steel.
The fire pits come in flatpack form for easy transport and easily slip together, ready for use. Assembly time is under 30 seconds.
The kit Includes:
2 x side pieces with optional text & vent holes, 2 x end pieces with optional image & vent holes, 1 x bottom base
Dimensions: 60L x 45W x 40D cm
Weight: 27 kg

ON TRACK MEALS
We enjoy On Track Meals on our camping adventures. Each On Track Meal is one single serving of protein, allowing the individual to decide whether to eat it with pasta, rice, wraps, straight out of the packet, or any other way they choose. Being a ‘ready to eat’ meal means you do not need to add any water or wait for rehydration. Meals are not dehydrated or freeze-dried. Meals can be used in any situation where refrigeration is not possible such as outdoor pursuits, 4wding, boating or to have at home in the cupboard. These are locally made in and distributed from Brisbane. All you need to do is place the pouch in boiling water for 2-3 minutes or pour it into a pan over heat and stir until warm.
We enjoy part-time van life, creating weekly episodes that are live at 5pm (AEST) on Sundays, and sharing our experiences on our travels with our cavoodle, Twyla. In our episodes we stay at free and paid campsites, showing our tips and tricks on how to make life on the road easier and fun. Come join us on our adventures! Hi there, unfortunately I don’t recall free campsite where you can camp for 30 days. I have tried thinking back and I have asked Adam but both of us are stumped on this one. So sorry I don’t have the answer for you. Thanks for checking out episodes and if I do come across I’ll let you Know. Regards Deano
