FREE CAMPING along the California Central Coast, visit The Hearst Castle, Morro Bay...
I didn't believe it until I actually did it, but you CAN camp along Highway 1 on the California Central Coast for free! There are many places that indicate there is no overnight parking allowed, but along the drive you'll see pull offs right along the ragged drop of coastline above the the crashing waves or just across the street.
I'll show you my spot on Highway 1 and take you along the California Coast from Cayucos, to Morro Bay to the Hearst Castle!

Loved your video. There is no longer any camping anywhere along the 1 sadly. Signs are posted all over the place. We drove through and stopped for a few hours and it was just so beautiful, got to see the elephant seals and some otters too:) Our rig is 28 feet so not very stealthy lol. Wish I knew of a decent secret spot anywhere near there. Will try again next time. I love your channel and your vids. Thank you for sharing your experiences!❤
Well this didn’t help me at all. Haha I’m looking for spots to boon dock.

riiiight?? The title says "Free camping along the California coast...", then, after sitting through where she got a sandwich, cookies, and where other people are staying at hotel rooms....the most we get as far as location is "the central California coast".. OK, thanks for that.
We loved that area and touring Hearst Castle on a nice sunny day. That is definitely a must do. Thanks for taking us back!
What a beautiful area......and free camping along the ocean...Great find

You could go back, set your stuff down, then """""Accidently""""" fall in.
Awesome!
I love the Hearst Castle. Glad that the state and the Hearst foundation worked out an agreement to preserve the castle. There is so much history there. Hard to imagine that there is still a huge warehouse in the village that is full of all of the same furnishings , probably enough to supply another castle. The marble staircase at the Madonna Inn restaurant came from the Hearst collection. The Spanish mission at Lompoc is also well worth seeing. If you get back south in California, the mission San Juan Capistrano is just beautiful beyond belief. The front wall of the sanctuary for the congregation is carved cherry wood and covered with Gold Leaf floor to ceiling...wall to wall. It is so beautiful that it commands your silence or to talk in hushed tones. They still hold services there , but the bells are now electronic. The bells were damaged in a previous earthquake. The church and the grounds exude such a religious atmosphere you leave there a changed person. Love your vlogs.
Very cool!
The Hearst Castle looks really extravagant. Thanks for the video!
I'm so proud of you guys that aren't afraid to do just what you love to do. You give me hope to do what i wish to do. I love the video with you and Tiki. God bless you guys and keep you safe.

wendy me too! What a great place to stay
Love you videos Robin. This year the areas you were at are cracking down on overnight parking due to people who do not respect the leave no trace ethics. Glad you and others have had a great time. I love Cambria. Hoping to visit soon before the fog rolls in.
I haven’t been in that area in years. Thanks for the trip!
Please tell where there is a place to overnight at morro bay and at or around San Simeon. Thanks
Hi Robin thanks for doing this video Hearst Castle and Highway 1 is on my list to do

I loved it! Have fun
Short..But lovely
Great eye for that spot!
You can also boon dock on Hwy 1 North of Santa Cruz, near Half Moon Bay. If this is in real time & you’re still there......and if you’re heading north.....you cannot miss Monterey.....and especially the ocean drive in Pacific Grove. Can’t boon dock along the ocean there........but you can park next to the water all day. If you have never been to Pacific Grove......this is a must!!😊😊

Similar. Spent the night in Cambria. City street but next to a trail which was next to the beach. No issues
Robin, a nice video. I ran across your channel courtesy of Bob Wells. When you make to the SF Bay. Would enjoy sharing a meal with and discussing travel. Cheers, Mate.
Grow out your hair again. Looking great with long hair. Love the video thanks. Have a great day.
Really nice ocean views. I wsd hoping to get info on stealth camping but i guess thats in a follow up video. Sorry I can't get excited about anyone's mansion; to each her own. Thx for putting yourself out there & keeping us informed about opportunities & options. You rock!

Stealth in the next one and one dedicated to it about 6 weeks ago. I'm a history fan 😉
Where are you camping for free
Hi. We have never drove highway 1. We want to take our new rv down that route next week. Do you have any addresses where we could park overnight?
Hi Robin. I had a camp hosting job on the Central Coast at Sunset State Beach. I was there for six months. That whole area is so gorgeous. But my experience was quite different than yours. once I left my position at the campground I tried to park my motorhome several places you know just near the beach or in an inconspicuous place. But I always got hassled by the police. The area seems very RV unfriendly to me. I'm glad you had a good experience
That view...how were the roads? The were pretty tore up...?safe travels...😎

So ... you just parked off Highway 1 near Cayucos, where there is no "no parking" sign and it's OK? I love that part of the coast although never visited Hearst Castle. Heard it's a rip off. Thanks for sharing.

it was amazing. exactly...I actually asked a ranger at the hearst castle, as that is a california state park property, and he said as long as there are no "no parking" signs and youre not blocking the road in any way it's fine. I'm hoping no one else has had a different experience!

Makes sense. Quite conflicted about the fees for state parks. After all, they're public property. At least they're supposed to be. I understand about the need to allocate salary for state personnel and the preservation of said parks. But that's what our taxes are for, right? Lord knows, this State feels like a foreign country sometimes.
It always amazes me that people (10 so far on this video) have given a thumbs down!!! What in the world did they dislike about this video!?!?!?! It was fresh, informative and very enjoyable to watch!!! I give 10 extra thumbs up to make up for those dummies!!! LOL Keep up the good videos!!

Cherri Gray Maybe because the title says free overnite camping, not tour of the Hearst Castle. She just rushed through the camping part at the very end of the video. And it's possible people didn't watch it all the way through because it seemed like click bait.

I clicked on this video because of the title, but I was fooled. "FREE CAMPING", even though it's listed first and is in all caps, is not the subject. I don't think that that makes me or anyone else a dummy.

CAMPISMO GRÁTIS ???????
I miss living in the central coast. Hearst Castle also has a nice evening tour where the cast dresses up in period clothing
Did you buy your RV new or use,,and what type do you have?????
I’m surprised that you didn’t get the knock. There’s “no overnight camping” signs EVERYWHERE along the Cali coast.
I wanted to tell you that there's such a thing as dry toilets. It's an aluminum wrap that wraps your solids round and round when you flush and then you throw away. For urine, you throw some kitty litter in there so it will make it solid then flush, same process will happen, throw away. Don't know if you knew that....

I'v had this stupid cheap porta potty toilet that has leaked at least 3 times and once very nasty! Somehow the handles did not grab the edges well and am considering trying to cat litter box method. It is just me and my dog anyhow so ho cares anyways! It also REALLY will save on time and making a mess cleaning that thing when its time to dump it at the public park bathrooms. I've had a few messes at the public bathrooms where I had to literally clean up the entire bathroom myself because the damn hole where you dump it slips from the seat (don't ask me how but it does) and there goes few ounces of poop all over the floor so cat litter starts to sound way much better and will save on water also, and even odors probably! I had a cat for 17 yrs so I know it will not bother me to scoop it up, put it in bag, find a public trash can, throw it in and bam! Same with the urine, it all clumps.
There's a mauve sand beach on that coast, somewhere south of Big Sur. I'm sorry. I don't remember the name of it. You'll need to google it if you're interested.
Where on the PCH did you camp? Planning a trip in a week and im so scared of finding safe places to sleep
Hi Robin, Isn't there a limit on the type of rig you can drive on the 1? I've been told that my class c isn't allowed, 32 ft. Can you message me to let me know about this? thanks, keep up the wonderful videos girl!!!
The title says free camping but you never let us know where the free camping is. Need to change the title.
The first few seconds is all anyone needs to see to realize vanlife is the right choice lol
This was not helpful at all and had very little to do with parking.
Yea, it would of bee nice to see your van or whaver your traveling in, an idea where you parked, DETAILS!. But overall, it did spark a desire to pack up and go for a short trip. I'm currently in Baja and you CANNOT beat anything like USA. USA is all about $$$$$$ and restrictions. Mexico is so super chap and if you look careful and patiently you will find some very nice VERY affordable campspots to rent or free instead of finding the "safe spot" where the "gringos" go. You can literally park on the sides of the roads (just not outside and into the streets because you dn't know what kind of neighborhood is there but you can live for a long long time in Baja/Tijuana/Ensenada/Rosarito and be safe and comfy but make sure your vehicle is well/very well secure, not just a cheap lock either. Have a small radio on if you leave and leave the vents open, a fan, something that will make people think twice before wanting to break it and you'll be alright. Evn parking overnight for a week or day is pretty cheap if you look around.
