    The biggest problem for most people is that they are not in control of their workdays. When your boss wants something done he rarely cares about your calendar. In other words, your time is not your own to control.

    @@Bruceneuman This problem with bosses not respecting calendars was an issue 50 years ago. There are solutions. Whole books have been written about problems like this. There are multiple choices, but first, one must change the script running in our heads. (Quitting is the nuclear option that should not be necessary)

    As a working mother, it's not the boss, but with the young kid it's hard to predict my calendar. Sick leaves, cancellations of after school classes.. and in the evenings sometimes, for hours she reads books and doesn't disturb, but other times wants the mother all the time.

    REALLY USEFUL! Thank you! I often have this problem, because in Real Estate you have to be very flexible, and because people change appointments relatively often and at the last moment. We also get a lot of unforeseen emergencies to deal with, which makes you completely lose the day. We also get invited to so many courses, meetings, work related events, networking, etc., that it often hard to prioritise.

  • @Carl_Pullein

    @Carl_Pullein

    The issue when you have so many competing tasks will always come back to which you will prioritise. Tasks and things to do will never stop (ever); the only constant you have is time. That leaves the question of what will you do in the time you have each day? Which in turn comes back to priorities. What are your priorities in your professional and personal life? Start there.

    Does it make sense to add a transportation calendar? I frequently take the train to school, the gym, and sometimes to other places. However, is it necessary to include the time in my calendar? It could potentially help me in the future when I have two different meetings in two different locations and need to use a car or train. Though, is it necessary? And also, what is the difference between a task and an event?

Do you have any kind of examples we can follow to organize a little bit better our workday?

    Here, your business model is reliant on receiving and responding to messages quickly. If there are two of you working on this, you could cover for each other. For instance, you cover the morning, and your wife covers the afternoon. This will give you both time each day to focus on the non-message-reliant part of your business.
