The Frederique Constant Highlife COSC promises great watchmaking from Geneva that doesn't break the bank. The main thing I wanted to experience was: does it live up to this promise of affordable luxury?

Movement
Inside ticks a rather humble Sellita SW220. The movement is produced and regulated by Sellita, then sent to COSC for certification and then sent to Frederique Constant.

The company was founded in Geneva in 1988 by the Dutch couple Peter and Aletta Stas, with the promise to make affordable luxury. In 1999 they introduced the Highlife, and in 2004 they introduced their first in-house movement. In 2007 they introtroduced their silicon escapement wheel and in 2008 they presented their own tourbillon. The beautiful worldtimer was introduced in 2012. And in they opened their own manufacture in Geneva.
And that’s not all. Because they did keep their promise about the affordable pricing. In 2016, they even introduced a perpetual calender for less than 10.000 euros.
With the Highlife they step into the field of masculine luxury sports watches.
Why I chose it
It is even the first collection completely perceived by Managing Director Niels Eggerding, who took over the helm a couple of years ago.
I spoke for quite a while with him about this new collection, and one thing he pointed out,
was that they spent over four years to create exactly the right piece.
First of all, it has a glass caseback, which reveals the movement. The case is both brushed and polished. It has applied indices and the glass is perfectly domed with no distortion
And it even has antireflective coating on both sides. The strap is even very easily interchangeable, and you get the rubber strap I’m wearing here now for free.

great video, how does it compare to the oris aquis in terms of finishing in the case and bracelet?

Good question! I think both cases are equally well-finished. Good attention to detail, functional and comfortable. The Aquis is 300m water resistant, which comes with a certain size, and the FC is more elegant. When it comes to the steel bracelets, I think the FC is a bit better finished but the rubber straps of Oris are definitely better I think.

Hmyeah I get your point, would love to see what it would look like with for example an enamel or gradient on the dial
