From Wikipedia:
Fredericksburg is an independent city located in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 24,286, an increase from 19,279 at the 2000 census. The city population was estimated at 29,036 in 2019. The Bureau of Economic Analysis of the United States Department of Commerce combines the city of Fredericksburg with neighboring Spotsylvania County for statistical purposes.
Fredericksburg is located 53 miles (85 km) south of Washington, D.C. and 58 miles (94 km) north of Richmond.
Located near where the Rappahannock River crosses the Atlantic Seaboard fall line, Fredericksburg was a prominent port in Virginia during the colonial era. During the Civil War, Fredericksburg, located halfway between the capitals of the opposing forces, was the site of the Battle of Fredericksburg and Second Battle of Fredericksburg. These battles are preserved, in part, as the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park. More than 10,000 African-Americans in the region left slavery for freedom in 1862 alone, getting behind Union lines. Tourism is a major part of the economy. Approximately 1.5 million people visit the Fredericksburg area annually, including the battlefield park, the downtown visitor center, events, museums, art shops, galleries, and many historical sites.
Fredericksburg is home to several major retail and commercial centers including Central Park (as of 2004, the second-largest mall on the East Coast) and the Spotsylvania Towne Centre, located in Spotsylvania County adjacent to the city. Major employers include the University of Mary Washington (named for the Fredericksburg resident who was the mother of George Washington), Mary Washington Healthcare, and GEICO. Many Fredericksburg-area residents commute to work by car, bus, and rail to Washington D.C. and Richmond, as well as Fairfax, Prince William, and Arlington counties.
Despite recent decades of suburban growth, reminders of the area's past abound. The 40-block Fredericksburg Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, embraces the city's downtown area and contains more than 350 buildings and locations dating to the 18th and 19th centuries, including the Fredericksburg Town Hall and Market Square, Lewis Store, and former site of the Slave Auction Block.
Civil War battles are commemorated in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park. Formed by an act of Congress in 1927, the national military park preserves portions of the battlefields of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, the Wilderness, and Spotsylvania Court House. The Fredericksburg National Cemetery, also part of the park, was developed by the federal government after the war on Marye's Heights on the Fredericksburg battlefield. It contains more than 15,000 Union burials from the area's battlefields. Many unidentified soldiers were buried in mass graves.

As a Virginia resident Fredericksburg is no place to visit in my opinion yes it has history but it is in the middle of the shittiest part of town near the beach!! You’re better off just going to Jamestown! Or if you’re smart you’ll just head to the mountains where it’s beautiful and you don’t have to worry about people robbing you like you do in Fredericksburg!! And I know because I’m a Virginia resident for my whole life even though I’ve been all over the country working!!!

The rebels to the British ...It's difficult to believe that during the years of slavery. People they lived here colonized by the British, yet their was a war on the east coast in towns just like these. A war against the British which would make them sort of rebels to the common lifestyle here. They had a war around Fredericksburg can you imagine it looking down the street. I have to go through alot of information to piece it together houses, people, landmarks, colonization, Army, slavery, everyday life. WOW !!

Tbh the battle of Fredericksburg leveled most of the city, and what wasn't nailed down was looted by soldiers from the union mainly. Layout is the same. But if you look at old photos, whole place was leveled. There is a small building at the end of William St. That might be period correct but idk tbh

@@JhonnyBoi sorry it is not “just another suburb”. Woodbridge used to be woods. It was developed with houses and strip malls. Period. Fredericksburg is a HISTORIC CITY that was established in 1728. Some of the buildings in the city are that old. The city of Fredericksburg has suburbs...some may be similar to Woodbridge. But the CITY itself is what I am speaking of. It is a 40 block downtown and could be compared to downtown Charlottesville, or downtown Winchester or such. There is NOTHING in Woodbridge that is comparable. Maybe you have never been to downtown Fredericksburg which is why you speak without knowledge.

@@sweetbriarhuslin7371 rent is high everywhere in urban areas. And where ever you choose to lay down roots, you will be confined to the walking trails in that area. There are MILES of diverse walking and biking trails here. Wooded...or along the river..or walking in the city. Lots of choices. Or grab a kayak and enjoy the river. You are also mistaken when you say we have “a couple of bars or restaurants”. There are lots of awesome restaurants..from Thai to French to Italian to Tex Mexico to Jamaican to southern to Americana. Traffic? It is bad everywhere. Utilize the train. Fredericksburg is a little historic cluster of a city that is beautiful, walkable, diverse. The college offers plays, lectures and culture. If you want to live In the suburbs have at it. You can’t do it without driving everywhere...you need to drive to get a cup of coffee or anything. Here you canWALK to a cafe or restaurant or bookstore or farmers market or walking trail. In the suburbs if you walk outside, you are confined to walking in your little cul de sac u less you want to get in your car. To each his own, I guess. I like urban living and since I can’t afford to live in downtown DC or downtown Richmond...I will take this any day over living in some random neighborhood with rows of cookie cutter houses and playgrounds in the middle of suburbia.
