These guys, who sang with the man himself, stated that Freddie Starr was, in their opinion, the best Elvis soundalike they had ever experienced. Compliments don't come better than that, do they!

I recall them saying the same about Johnny Earl, who they worked with quite a lot back in the day... I worked with Johnny a couple of times and he really did sound amazingly like Elvis... I also saw him perform with the Jordanaires and, in my opinion, his performance was only bettered by Ben Portsmouth kzread.info/dash/bejne/fKmYucmxeLe9Yag.html

Going back to 1980/81 I had the privilege to play a show with the band I was with back at that time, at a corporate show, where Freddie Starr was the floor show. Freddie was brilliant, he was very professional, carried all the sheet music for his show, cues written in etc, because he mixes his comedy with songs, he does quite a lot of (slap stick) impersonation's of a lot of singing stars and celebrities, and he never missed a beat. Band has to be alert, watch for the cue's, which he let's the band know about at regersal, nothing is improvised as one might think, there is routine, and what he does, is well rehersed, no room for mishap, or error, even the standing ovation at the conclusion of his show, is rehersed, and on que. Really enjoyed working with him, with his show back then, a very talented man great singer, and he knows the songs really well, pitch perfect, and can play guitar and piano, knew what he wanted, and if need be, would demonstrate during rehersal, what he wanted the band to do, because we needed to play along with the comedy, be part of the choreographing of his show, and stay alert at all time. A brilliant professional, entertainer. Is missed, passed, way before his time, because as an older style entertainer, somehow he managed to remain in control of the show.

What I find funny about this is these guys probably spent the last 40-50 years retelling stories about how good Elvis was and then this old, little, squat, Northern English guy comes along, on a crappy little show on UK television, and out of nowhere just replicates almost perfectly what Elvis could do with his voice. You could tell at the end that they didn't know how to take it, lol. It must've been both a surprise and a humbling moment for them. Before anyone comes at me saying he's nowhere close to Elvis, well, Elvis was Elvis, but I haven't heard someone get quite this close before.

Nice & the Jordanairs still on top of their game, it would have been good to see Elvis still record songs with them in latter 70's, they complimented each other vocally to perfection🆗🇦🇺👍

All notes, no jokes. The almost religious gravity and respect Freddie gave to that number with The Jordanaires, showed his never ending love for the one and only Elvis.

Me and my wife both used to work at Knowsley Safari park in the early 70's. We used to get the bus from Prescot back to home in Liverpool. We changed buses at Old Swan area. While waiting for our link, along comes this lad similar age as myself, we got chatting and he was the funniest madcap we had ever bumped into. He never said who he was but we had the greatest 20 minute experience of comic conversation ever. It was only later on when we saw Freddie Starr on TV that we realised who he was. He was a natural and charismatic character, born to entertain.
