The days of great artists and entertainment, sadly gone for ever I’m afraid.
These guys, who sang with the man himself, stated that Freddie Starr was, in their opinion, the best Elvis soundalike they had ever experienced. Compliments don't come better than that, do they!

I recall them saying the same about Johnny Earl, who they worked with quite a lot back in the day... I worked with Johnny a couple of times and he really did sound amazingly like Elvis... I also saw him perform with the Jordanaires and, in my opinion, his performance was only bettered by Ben Portsmouth kzread.info/dash/bejne/fKmYucmxeLe9Yag.html

The backbone of comedy a pure legend ❣️
What a great voice Freddie Starr had, really enjoyed that song 'Dont' i will be playing that many times again !
Just a genius who simply loved performing and still missed today. If you were around in 70-90's we blessed with Freddie, Eric and Ernie and Monkhouse and thankfully we can always look back and watch true stars performing which we say do not have today.
Nobody could sing like the king himself but let me tell you it doesn't come any closer than freddie star

That bass voice could carry me off to heaven
Going back to 1980/81 I had the privilege to play a show with the band I was with back at that time, at a corporate show, where Freddie Starr was the floor show. Freddie was brilliant, he was very professional, carried all the sheet music for his show, cues written in etc, because he mixes his comedy with songs, he does quite a lot of (slap stick) impersonation's of a lot of singing stars and celebrities, and he never missed a beat. Band has to be alert, watch for the cue's, which he let's the band know about at regersal, nothing is improvised as one might think, there is routine, and what he does, is well rehersed, no room for mishap, or error, even the standing ovation at the conclusion of his show, is rehersed, and on que. Really enjoyed working with him, with his show back then, a very talented man great singer, and he knows the songs really well, pitch perfect, and can play guitar and piano, knew what he wanted, and if need be, would demonstrate during rehersal, what he wanted the band to do, because we needed to play along with the comedy, be part of the choreographing of his show, and stay alert at all time. A brilliant professional, entertainer. Is missed, passed, way before his time, because as an older style entertainer, somehow he managed to remain in control of the show.
Such sadness for his passing, especially as he was alone 😔 thank you so much for the laughs Freddie, May you rest in peace

Love Freddie in my opinion will always be the best elvis impersonator
What I find funny about this is these guys probably spent the last 40-50 years retelling stories about how good Elvis was and then this old, little, squat, Northern English guy comes along, on a crappy little show on UK television, and out of nowhere just replicates almost perfectly what Elvis could do with his voice. You could tell at the end that they didn't know how to take it, lol. It must've been both a surprise and a humbling moment for them. Before anyone comes at me saying he's nowhere close to Elvis, well, Elvis was Elvis, but I haven't heard someone get quite this close before.

The Jordenaires were brilliant, classy, and would not have sung with Freddie if they hadn't respected him. It's not as if they needed the work. I reckon we witnessed mutual respect. I know Freddie was out of the box on and off stage but he sure connected with those guys. And they with him.

Such a shame he has now passed...he was a great entertainer and singer....RIP Freddie. The Jordanaires must be the best backing group I have ever heard no wonder Elvis wanted them as his.

Freddie had such integrity as an entertainer and singer - his versions of Elvis songs only add to the richness and depth of the originals - he should be celebrated for his skill and talent and unique vocal qualities - his sincerity, respect and enjoyment for good music and other artists really shines through - thanku Freddie you were a real gem of an entertainer RIP ❤

He was as far as I know in groups singing in the early 60s in Liverpool and was friends with the Beatles.
I've be saying for many a year it's the backing singers that MAKE a record/song. These guys are absolutely sublime. Freddie is really good, but so are many Elvis sound-a-likes. It's the backing that makes this stand out.

Me and my wife both used to work at Knowsley Safari park in the early 70's. We used to get the bus from Prescot back to home in Liverpool. We changed buses at Old Swan area. While waiting for our link, along comes this lad similar age as myself, we got chatting and he was the funniest madcap we had ever bumped into. He never said who he was but we had the greatest 20 minute experience of comic conversation ever. It was only later on when we saw Freddie Starr on TV that we realised who he was. He was a natural and charismatic character, born to entertain.
