Freddie Green poly-rhythms! Count Basie Broadcast August 1938
Музыка
Check out Freddie Green's "poly-rhythms"! 00:42 & 4:12. Really unusual, brilliant rhythm playing from Freddie Green (guitar) & Walter Page (bass) Jo Jones (drums).
From "The Savory Collection", Mosaic Records. Tunes: Every Tub and I Ain't Got Nobody. Broadcast from the Famous Door. NYC, August 1938.
The Basie rhythm section is legendary - maybe the first truly great one. Anyone familiar with Freddie Green's playing, and this rhythm section in general will appreciate how unusual and adventurous the approach in these tunes is. Before hearing these recently-discovered tracks (thanks Mosaic for releasing them!), I had never heard anything like this in Freddie Green's 50 years of recording with the Basie band. Hearing something new like this from 1938 is the musical equivalent of finding buried treasure...
And of course, there's beautiful solo work from Lester Young, Sweets Edison, Basie and others. Jimmy Rushing is heard on vocals.
