I am 37 myself, but I can imagine that this scene blew people away when it was shown for the first time. And this was almost 60 years before the movie "Inception" popularised the whole visual trick where the camera rotated along with the room.

Now it would be all done CGI & still not be as good as this. Amazingly done by Fred Astaire & timing superb. The trick is when he cleverly pushes off the wall which allows the room to spin. The guys who built this to work deserve an Oscar.

Fred Astaire danced so elegantly that one does not notice his tremendous physical effort until the end, when he sits on the sofa again...and his chest gets inflated with air due to the effort. Still he smiles. Fred Astaire danced with his legs and with his arms too, a very difficult feat to do, as the dancer is normally more attentive to the feet steps than to the arms.

The combination of the choreography, the mechanics of the revolving room, the timing required, and Fred Astaire's ability to pull this off without ever getting off balance and making it so smooth are incredible. The trial and error, imagination, vision, etc. required to decide what to incorporate into something that was so obviously unique astound me. This was a one time opportunity. I'm sure many takes were required, but the concept was a one timer...so what to include, or exclude from this particular dance to make it spectacular? Incredible level of creativity.

It's really not. How many cuts? Fred was almost uncut start to finish. A brilliant dancer, not someone crawling round the floor.

Gosh, I'm praying this wasn't a " gas to make Fred Astaire dance in a rotating room cause that would be So Funny "... You know, like the Harvard psychiatrists who put a person in a 100% black room no light and laughed when the person kept falling over... Social experimenters / mental illness practitioners / psychiatrists are like that... I love Fred and wish I was Ginger Rodgers .

Lionel Richie stole this idea from Fred for the video walking on the ceiling in the 80s. Now I see this. His video sucks
