The thing I love about Fred is that he puts the right amount of sincerity & sarcasm into his characters. It's a perfect blend: not too flippant, not over the top, and never rushed/disingenuous.

Underrated? He was on the show for 11 years. I don't think that would make someone "underrated". Hell, he had a lot of airtime on the show even after he left, much more than Season 39's featured players.
@AQUANAUT18

@@jessenathan9346 i agree but I also think that some people put him in the Bobby Moynihan category for that reason who I always thought was consistent but consistently just ok. But if you give Armisen the freedom to do what he wants he can spin some gold, and that wasnt always apparent in his time on SNL

The phone call bit is my favorite. I come back to this just to hear "or could be the wrong number" the timing in this is amazing because that's what makes it funny. Love it so much.

I thought Bill Hader was great but man, Fred Armisen is a talented man! (all of the members of SNL rock!)
"I take the train home, the wheels didn't even touch the track."
Of all the SNL monologues on KZread, this is the one I re watch the most!! Really makes me feel like I'm at a Broadway play
I went to see him perform in Washington DC in 2011. This was after he had started filming Portlandia but before it aired. He ended up showing like 4 sketches from the first season to us. Some of the crowd was annoyed that he spent part of the show just showing us stuff, but little did any of them know that they were getting a sneak peak of what would become a massive hit show.
"Is this a dream?" = "Can I use this chair?" from Mr. Show.
I am obsessed with fred armisen 😂 his style of comedy is just gold
Fred knows how craft his comedic timing based on unknowable audience reaction so well. He knows how to wait for his moment which takes a lot of confidence.
Every joke hit. Fred Armisen is one of the greatest.
Just when I think Fred’s genius couldn’t possibly go any deeper, he throws “the wheels didn’t even touch the track” at me....
Fred Armisen is a legend
That is one of the best opening monologues I have ever been a part of. I have a one man show right now...off off off ...make a left than a right Broadway. I cried at the ending and laughed at the same time. I am floating right now as I type this. Fred, there is an opening at the Pizza Parlor - I know this, because I just quit.

easily one of the best SNL monologues of all time--sincere, poignant, funny. "i'm gonna miss this place.." brought tears to my eyes. good or bad, we've all had those "is this a dream?" moments.
Cranky Kong!!!
This is the best SNL monologue I have ever seen! Fred has a great gift for lampooning pretentious artistry. It's very good! I wish he'd had a stronger finish, but whatever.
A true classic definition of a monologue. It's very hard to pull this off. Fred is a comedic genius
I love Fred. His humor is subtle and understated.

And the description it has the name of this one man show and I lost it again upon reading it! Genius comedy!
Pure genius, great theater.
That was not just bizarre, but also extremely funny!! I love him! Such a clever talent, and seems effortless for him.
He is so brilliant. Huge inspiration.
The way his transitions are one beat too quick gets me every time
So good dude, will always be one of my favorites. His work on portlandia is his prime absolutely and thats saying something.
He's a genius on so many levels. Fred is maybe the most talented, and certainly the most intelligent entertainer of his generation. As far as range goes, he's gonna be tough to surpass. His Stand Up for Drummers special on Netflix is incredibly impressive. It seems like he can A+ anything from spit takes to mockumentary, so he might be in the top 50 best of all time and he seems to just be hitting his stride.
This was like. So subtly intricately awesome in so many ways I haven't even began to process yet. It's like, wow throughout. And then like, how was that so good? Also it was very funny throughout. We're prouda you, Funny Fred.
C’mon Cranky, take it to the fridge
This is without a doubt the best monologue in SNL history. By far
Perfect! I love Fred's "one man show" plays. Reminiscent of the old SCTV sketches. I feel sorry for those who "don't get it".

When the play at the local theater is so low budget, and the scenes really should be filmed than done live, and it becomes the stuff of genius anyway...😂😂😂. This man makes me spit out my popcorn, everytime!!!
I would totally watch this one man show.
The most real and intelligent comedian ever. Thank you Fred.
I love Fred!!!! He is just hilarious and so cute!!!

One word: absolutely amazing.
For all those who have bombed on that opening monologue stage take notice. That’s how you kill it. Owned it. And we all laughed very hard. Best monologue intro. Well...a good top 5, 15 or 20 anyways. Fred the master of live comedy.
Wow! An actual original, well written monologue...not a cringey musical number or Q&A from the audience with celebrity cameos for the 87, 557, 212th time.
This is the only opening monologue that I have watched numerous times throughout the years.

A master class on breaking the mold of what is comedy. Bravo.
His dad lives in my hometown. When he came to give a show, my (now not) friend stalked him just to take a picture. He was cool about it and now I realize, maybe he shouldn't have been. Fred Armisen is a wonder. A legend.
