Haha the deadhead do appear earlier in the season. The girl comes up to their table at lunch and asks to take a chair. Ken says "grateful dead. Music sucks. Chick's are hot" haha. I like this finale and what it said to me was that the whole friend group was somewhat breaking up as they were becoming less afraid of being who they really were. Lindsay, a free spirit rebel. Ken, in love. Daniel, a geek. Nick, into disco, and Kim, single, experiencing life without the need for a man. Anyhow, that's what I took from it:)

Literally came to the comments to say the same thing. Fun fact, they made this episode BEFORE the show was cancelled because the production team kinda knew they'd be canned soon so they hastily threw together a finale just to tie things up.

Agreed! Such a good show, so ahead of it's time.

I just finished the series for the first time last night. It's odd that when this aired the series finale was actually episode 12 where the Geeks look for the house with the garage door clicker. Which is such a bad episode to end on... Then ep. 13 had no mention of the garage door / cheating. That whole story wasn't wrapped up until ep. 15. I knew that this show was abruptly cancelled and I was worried it was going to feel that way. But the way it ended felt natural and everything was wrapped up nicely, without being in your face about it. Mostly left up to your interpretation. For me, all of our Freaks and Geeks have grown, as you'd expect high school students would. Lindsay is not going to only focus on school, and is getting life experience. Daniel is still the cool kid but appreciates DnD. And is actually applying himself. One of his last scenes is trying to understand and learn about the projector. Sam got the girl he loved, got his first kiss, and realized it's not what he wanted. He also wants to branch out from nerd culture. Kim's best friend is Lindsay, a girl smart girl who she didn't like originally but now they are traveling with the Dead Heads. Nick stopped being a stoner and is branching out with other things, like disco and dating a girl that actually wants to be with him. Ken is one who isn't going to change because he was the one who was his truest self. His last scene was talking crap about disco and getting kicked out. Bill and Neal were also themselves, nerds at heart. And but have grown since dealing with their own issues pertaining to their parents. I really don't think there was much story left to tell if there was a season 2.

The show was set in 1980. Disco was still alive unfortunately, although dying with the final death a year or 2 later. The show goes out of the way to show that disco was in it's final stages. That was one of the points of the episode.

Would have been nice to see how far it would've gone if the network believed in it more. You already had shows like Dawson's Creek, 7th Heaven around that time doing well, so there was an audience for this. But alas, NBC lol. I'm sure they look at it now and shake their heads seeing how many of them have really done well for themselves after the show and could've capitalized on it especially after Seinfeld just ended around that time.

Watched it when it originally Aired ad well. I loved it. And those 2 last episodes did air on ABC family like. Not even a year after the show was canceled. Had it on an old vhs tape. Good times.

It's hard to say now what the real appeal of this show was for me. The stories really were a bit weak at the end there and the characters could be annoying at times. I still followed this show like a 40 year old high school student follows the Grateful Dead. Man, that intergender side story was so dumb. I also remember hanging off the edge of my seat waiting for Joe Flaherty to make a Count Floyd reference on the Halloween episode. He frustratingly never broke character but I swear there was a knowing look at one point. I'm going to have to dig out my DVD set and watch this show again.

I'm such an ass that I thought the finale WAS supposed to be a season finale that was already filmed before the show got cancelled so it seemed just fine, even intriguing, but shitty because we could never see what would've happened next. Plenty of shows have gotten abrupt or unresolved cliffhangers for endings so whatever, unfortunate. Now I'm feeling kind of betrayed 😅! Horrible ending: Seinfeld. That was the dumbest way to explain why the characters had to go away! It was entertaining, no complaints there, but the overall plot and ending just reeked of one really stoned writer who forgot they had a short story due the next day in English class 😛!
