Freak Audio Lab - Pulse is Everything

Музыка

Messing with triplets using the Kamavardhani ragam (also called Kamavardhini/Pantuvarali).
Also including the infamous track Yngwie 2000 (with the same annoying triplets included as well as somewhat cheesy burning pillars).

    Maybe its because of my complete lack of traditional education concerning music, but before counting the pulse with triplets it felt very comfortable alternating between down, and subsequently, upbeats in the rhythm. Too much primus, probably. These videos are a terrific boon to a rhythmic buffoon like myself. Thank you for your continued charity, Mr. Eklundh!

  • @playloud247
    @playloud2474 жыл бұрын

    Part of the problem why many young guitarists lack a sense of pulse is because few of them spend any time practicing rhythm, and instead concentrate 100% of their time on fancy soloing techniques. Switching to acoustic guitar and playing rhythm for a year or so can do wonders to one's sense of pulse. Also listening to a wide variety of music really helps (latin, funk, jazz-swing, bossa nova, etc.).

    I love how twisted this 3+3+2 sounds to my mind when implemented like that :O I guess it's easier for me to think of it as a pattern of 8 over a pattern of 12 so every three 8-patterns align with every two 12-patterns... which actually makes it some weird fractal-like 3 against 2... :D

    I was just talking to a friend about this problem with the pulse earlier today. We would both hear it the way you *don't* want us to hear it. I think it comes from a lifetime of either counting rhythms in sync with the pulse and vice versa, or generally counting odd time signatures in groups of two and three rather than over a steady pulse.

    For even more fun, you can ask people to clap the time, stomp the triplet pattern, then sing 5 or 7 on top. Eventually, both 3 and 5 will land on 1, as all patterns do.

    I never asked myself the question about that song, is the tempo / pulse always the same all along ? I don't think so, even though it flows naturally as I know it by heart. Dammit I never analyze signatures in songs, I just listen and try to play them because they sound awesome. I think it's more important for me to feel the "groove" by heart, make it flow in my blood, rather than cutting it into compartments. It's something I have to do when I work with other musicians, but otherwise I never do it for myself (besides fun curiosity sometimes). I remember friends freaked out because of Evil Shower being super intricated, with weird rhythmic stuff in it. It was completely out of my understanding, I just liked the funny melodies and was more intrigued about the guitar sounds I couldn't replicate (cause dildo and open tunings throughout the album).

  • @dantheman2907
    @dantheman29074 жыл бұрын

    Speaking of dildo solos, you're credited with the solo (specifically for the dildo) on the Soilwork song Machine Gun Majesty from their 2000 (recorded 1999) album The Chainheart Machine, and whilst I really love the dildo section for the EVH vibe, it's all the solo leading up to that bit that I've been dying to know how you played for the last *TWENTY* years!!
