@@somervillettv2272 I disagree. While Anastasiya's version is pleasant (definitely better than average), it lacks the sophistication of this rendition. Btw: Anyone know who did the Stereophile Test CD2 version of this? That's my favorite.

slightly more of a sombre tone needed , to portray what is going on in the song. but a very good rendition from a truly great violinist

It is his own interpretation, not the one by Wilhelmj (which I prefer to this one) or others. I think it is less virtuosic, with a deep focus on simplicity and resemblance to the vocal score, but still lacks the engraved passion required by this piece. I don't think it is too slow, but a little quiet (if I may put it that way), maybe. Please remember that I'm not making any comment on Mr Vengerov's skills and abilities, which is great without any doubt. And I really liked other new arrangments of the pieces in this album, like Perpetuum Mobile or Hungarian dances.

He is The best.

Of course it is a virtuosic performance, but too quiet, calm, there is a lack of emotional flighting up. To understand what I mean watch the piano performance of Ave Maria by Valentina Lisitsa, for example.

Lacks emotion. Ave maria needs more soul put into it. It feels too up in the air like a kid wanting to hop on clouds and carefree. It needs more Gravity.

it's supposed to be a prayer, so this is how it should be played. When someone is praying saying the words of this "Invocazione", he 's supposed to talk with someone celestial and perfect. He's trying to reach the heaven, not searching more gravity. This piece needs to be played with humility, just like he has done.
