Frankie Knuckles House mix, recorded in 2002

It was Frankie Knuckles, the Godfather, who took the formless clay that disco had become after 1979's infamous Disco Demolition Night, and shaped it into what was first called Warehouse Music then, ultimately, came to be known simply as HOUSE. Thank you for this heavenly gift, Frankie. R.I.P! This was a recording of a dub of a purchased mixtape, if all that makes sense. So I can't tell you when the mixtape was produced. However, I made this recording sometime in 2002. Please like, subscribe and/or comment.

So many… as a BGLO member (Sigma) I travelled to ChiTown often and got to hear him…was very much a PG and Zanzibar head (R.I.P. Larry) but Frankie took you on a journey that you didn’t necessarily need “anything else” to vibe. Many tracks but I would say a BEST performance arena was when he played New Years Eve at the Cuehouse I believe

@@Citsejamalak - Wish I could have heard that! You are right that there are so many tracks, but one that is often rattling around in my head is TEARS, with vocals by Robert Owen, I think.. That baseline, the background female vocalist, then the words themselves: "When the curtain comes down and the circus is through..." It definitely says its piece.

@Deephouse_Gent66 Frankie often came to the house of blues in the 90s twice a year just to spin.... he woukd apin on the 4th of july weekend and thanksgiving if not there he would book other spots to go to for those two holidays........ He wouldn't talk about the past during interviews not up until a few years before he passed away

@@discomadness - That is fire! As I got older, a lot of my peers kinda faded away from house and seemed to be getting into more adult contemporary music, stepping music and such, so I was not as in the loop with what DJs were in town and where they were spinning. Sometimes I'd go to a spot with friends on impulse and be surprised when Boolumaster or someone would show up. I reconnected with a more house-oriented crowd in my 40s through people I knew from work. Thanks for that info!

Damn, that sounds nice! I heard some WBLS mixes mostly on youtube and deephousepage.com. Timmy Regisford, Merlin Bobb. I have a very vague memory from either late 81 or mid-82 where Chicago's WBMX featured some NY DJs mixing against CHGO's Hotmix 5, but I couldn't tell you who any of the NY guys were at that time. I didn't start recording them until 83. I just remember being surrounded by all manner of heavenly sounds that night until I fell asleep.
